Premier Inn
I've just noticed, in the small print, that Premier Inn class children as 15 and under only and don't allow 16-17 year olds into a family room as they class them as adults. Has anyone come across this before? I'll be honest, I've never thought about it - automatically presuming that my son would be fine in the family room with us as he's under 18. Their official response is that a second room would need to be booked ☹️

We have booked premier inns many times for the 4 of us since son turned 16. It has never been an issue and never questioned. I did used to tell him to keep himself scarce at reception ! Can't get away with it now he is 21 though.

Yes, my 17 year old might be around the corner while I do the self-service check-in 😉

We still all share a room - no one is bothered. Would still do self check in if available though.

Interested in this post guys. Was just thinking about this earlier today. Will be me DW and two DS who will be 21 and 18. They get on great and wouldn’t have a problem topping and tailing for the night. Do you think I’m pushing my luck with the hotel?

If you and your sons are comfortable with it I would just make sure they are not with you when you check in. Different PI’s have different layouts. Some are double and 2 singles and my son and daughter were fine. This year I managed to get rooms for £32 so booked two for the day before we go away. Travelodges allow 3 adults and a child, we don’t land until 1 am so have just booked the one room to crash in for a few hours before son drives us home.

I have a 16 year old and we still book PI, I honestly think that staff could not accurately guess the age of a child and lots of parents push it with the age.
When Ds1 was 11 (summer baby) his best mate was 5'8" with a full beard. At 12. In year 7. With a deep male voice. I do think the official line from PI is that they should be in another room, although Travel Lodge use this to their advantage by saying that they allow 3 adults in a room. So I think possibly the unofficial PI thing is that as long as you don't have a 30 year old in with his parents, you are ok.
