How long off work? Wish us luck!
How long do you usually take off work for Florida?
We’ve never done Florida as a family holiday, so DH has only ever taken two weeks exactly for family holidays. (I get the whole summer holiday, so duration isn’t a problem for me, just the fact of being tied to August!) We’d really like to stay in Florida for 2.5 - 3 weeks (have only booked 10 days at the moment, but we’re waiting to add extra when we know if DH will be allowed.) His contract states not more than 15 days off work in one go, but doesn’t clarify whether it’s 15 business days or calendar days. 15 calendar days doesn’t really make sense - DH works a 5 day week, so we go over 15 calendar days every time we have a two week holiday (16 days including 10 business days and 6 weekend days). Fingers crossed 15 days means exactly 3 x 5 business days off work, which would make more sense, but seems very generous, so maybe it’s just an error and should say 16 days. If so, we’ll have to hope his boss is feeling kind... We’re hoping to go a year today, so DH can apply for his leave today - not sure how long they will take to respond, but keep your fingers crossed for us! Has anyone else been able to take 3 weeks off work for Florida?

It just depends on your company policy. I can have 2 weeks as standard, 3weeks with sufficient notice & longer than 3 weeks with permission from the main man. I usually take 3 in the summer no problem.
DH works for the ambulance service. 18 days is the standard maximum but he has had 22 days with some shift swappng most years. Has to work the extra hours before he goes. |

I wouldn't take three weeks for Florida. It is not the norm in our lines of work for either DH or I to take three weeks at once, it is something we could maybe do once every 3-5 years so we would use three weeks for somewhere further afield e.g. we went to Australian in 2016.

Yes, I get blocks off at work so can swap blocks with other people ( although school holidays are at a premium for annual leave ).
I think 15 days off must mean 15 working days not weekends as well Rob |

If he's got a mon-fri job then it's hard to imagine how anyone could interpret 15 days as anything other than 3 x 5 days - ie 3 weeks.
We always used to go for 18 days, but last couple of times (inc got back yesterday) we've stuck to 2 weeks and it doesn't feel enough, especially this last trip as we did a week on-site and a week in a villa. I feel like we never really got into a proper holiday routine in either of them, and we only had one mooching around day, where we didn't do anything specific - a few of those would have been nicer. |

If we are going for 2 weeks we always take the day before off stay at Airport hotel and start our holiday early.
Then we take a couple of days off extra at the end so we can get used to being home. We have done a 2 week visit 3 week visit and a 4 all depends on what you can get off work. It works out cheaper if you do longer, if you have 14 day tickets for all parks you can spread them so it just mean some where to stay and food and a car if you want one.

Normally in previous jobs I could only take up to two weeks holiday in one go. I started a new job in February and they are quite happy for staff to take up to five weeks holiday consecutively if staffing levels permit. I am booking three weeks for our next trip.

We leave on Saturday for 3 weeks. We normally do 2 weeks but last time it all felt a little rushed trying to do every park and water park across Universal, Disney and Seaworld parks so thought 3 weeks would give us more opportunity for 'down' days where we just relax and don't do much.
