Clorox is definitely bleach!
modern amchines have a little tray to put HE washing liquid in underneath the lid when you lift up
HE stands for High Energy
Older machines suggest you put product in the tub, and then water, and add clothes last, when the liquid has mixed with the water

Using the old tubs, I always was advised to put clothes in first, then add Tide liquid (other brands are available... just don't use Clorox) on the top of the clothes and 18 mins later, boom, all done !

OP, sorry to hear about you using Bleach, that shop assistant needs her head examining, but thinking positively, gives you an excuse for shopping for new PJ's !

One thing to check as others have said, is to see if your machine has the 'HE' symbol on it, as they use different liquids.

Bless you, yes Clorox is bleach. I like Tide out there and usually a Publix own brand fabric conditioner. Thank goodness it was only PJ’s!
