Titanic memorabilia

Hi all,

A long shot, but I’m about to teach the topic of Titanic to my Year 6’s and I’m on the hunt for some Titanic or White Star Line artefacts I could use with them.

eBay is not being kind to me and I can’t really spend a fortune, but if anyone has any leads, please let me know!

I collect books about the Titanic, its an interest that I picked up from my grandpa. Im not sure what you are using as your source material but do you have Titanic books? The books are a great way to bring Titanic alive, with all the photos of all aspects of the ship.

You could also search Google images and print out various things, like menus, letters from passengers etc.

I went to a Titanic exhibition years ago. As you entered you were given a name and at the end of the exhibition you discovered your fate. Interesting!

OP. I think the chances of getting anything at a reasonable price is extremely low. Plus I would be very dubious about buying stuff on line.

A great subject to research though.

I have the Robert Ballard books that have some awesome artists impressions by Ken Marschall.

Maybe you could Google him and print off his paintings?

Have you seen the latest photos on line? Even the Capt's iconic bathtub has now crashed through the hull which is disappearing at a rate of knots.

As an aside my Granddaughter aged 8 was doing a school project on WW2. I was the only Parent/Grandparent who was able to supply ration books for them to see.

That’s fantastic. We did WW2 last year - I was surprised at how many of the children had personal links.

With regards to Titanic, I’m not expecting actual relics, was more of the newspaper cuttings or replica whistle kind of route. Just thought I’d put the feelers out there to see if there was anything tactile other than print outs of photos and letters. It’s been one of my interests for years - not sure I trust my replica China to Be handled by excited Year 6 children though

Got some good books

The Titanic Museum in Belfast has a gift shop and education centre I think - they might have school resource packs. Just a thought.

If you are anywhere near Liverpool the Maritime Museum has a large Titanic exhibition which is really good.

Hope you do it more sensitively than my DD(now17)'s teacher - she will still - 8 years later - not go downstairs on a ship, she has to be outside.

(the teacher split them into groups, they all drew their card... she was a stoker who died )

I was also going to suggest Titanic Belfast. They may have an education department?
