Renting Points Help

Hi,

I am needing to rent my points out this year for the first time due to covid. I am looking for some help please. I have had a go at a contract as I believe a lot of people require that.

The first question is that when you make a booking do you enter the renters details in full as the lead guest including their email address or do you enter the guests details but leave the email as your own one. Hope that makes sense.

The second one if how you people from the UK recommend being paid. I see a lot tend to use paypal, but I believe there is fee involved.

Any other tips greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You put the renters details in, you have all access to the booking so you don't need any of your own info in there, it stays in your bookings even after they have linked it in their My Disney Experience.

Paypal is the easy option, there is a fee but it's not much different from the change rate differences via other methods.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on the thread, but how do you go about the confirmation process, and in what order? I've done a few rentals before (mainly to Uk renters / friends), but am never quite sure I've got it right!

This is how I've been doing it, but would be interested to hear if I could be doing it any differently:
  • Agree details by email / messenger / etc.
  • Secure reservation (using my own name as guest 1)
  • Send contract to renter for signature and agreement to details and payment
  • Amend contract to renter guest details and send screenshot to renter (without confirmation number)
  • Await payment
  • Once payment has been received, send full copy of confirmed booking, with reservation number.

As I'm now offering rentals to US guests, I'm trying to make sure I'm doing this in the best way :-)

You are other thinking it. You always maintain control of the it so withholding the reservation number etc is pointless in my opinion.

I always message with renter to see what they want, check a availability then make the reservation for them. I then send them a contract with their details, points and value, once they have sent that back I then send them the confirmation from Disney. Payment due within 24 hours in full or I will cancel the reservation.

Thanks! Over thinking is definitely in my DNA, . I’ll try to be more relaxed about it - as you say, we owners retain control, so I would cancel if the payment didn’t come through.

Thanks for helping me look at this differently

sorry to jump in here but i'm just wondering how you accept payment for the reservation? i know PayPal is usually the most obvious choice but i worry about the renters being able to claim the money back?

PayPal friends and family, they can’t claim any money back. I’ve made a good rapport with all my renters and hope they feel the same.

i wasn't sure if renters would go for friends and family with them losing the ability to claim the money back? it would give me piece of mind if i insisted on it but i don't want to be stuck with the points either

I asked my renters to pay that way and they were happy to.
