Any Google Flights Guru's Here?

My partner and I think it might be nice to go to the Dubai Expo 2020 later this year (fingers crossed after reading the news the last few days! ) but only really if "things" align - and we can get flights at a "too good to miss" type of deal.

We want to do a visit over a long weekend type of thing, due to annual leave challenges as we have a couple of trips booked this year already.

So we thought fly out on a Friday, come back on a Monday type of thing, but flexible for a day or two either way.

We live 25 mins from Glasgow airport, which has daily Emirates flights, but not much further to Edinburgh airport. Also could do pretty much any other UK airport to Dubai, as my better half works on the trains so get free / damn cheap rail travel.

So, that sets the scene

I went to look at Google Flights as had read you could setup alerts on flights, but am I right in thinking you have to create an possibly flight itinerary and then create an alert for it?

So if I could go most weekends from October onwards, I would have to setup an itinerary for each possibly combination of dates, airports etc and create an alert for each and every one, that would tell me if it goes up and down, when I only want to know if it goes down?
