If you're looking for self catering I can recommend Habitat Apartments. They have accommodation all over Barcelona, and other cities. We booked through them a few years ago now, in the Gothic area from memory.

Do a search on the forum, someone asked the same question a few weeks ago and there were a lot of good suggestions...I can’t remember the name of the one I stayed at a few months ago, but it was very central and very nice.

We stayed in 2 hotels pre cruise and post cruise. H10 Raco Del Pi and Hotel Barcelona Catedral. Both where near the Cathedral within the Gothic Quarter and within walking distance of many things. Walked to the Port area easly enough too. Also located next to Las Ramblas.
Both hotels where lovely however preferred the Barcelona Catedral. Room was a corner room overlooking 2 streets with long windows. Rooftop pool as well so we could chill for an hour or 2 after a long day.

We stayed at the Hotel Continental in June at the top of Las Ramblas a couple of minutes walk to Plaza de Catalunya. Perfect location, easy walk to most things and a metro station just outside the hotel. It had a 24hr buffet, nothing over excitable but always something available. Drinks, beers, wine available all the time. It was very reasonably priced for what we got.
