Grand Californian and Aulani
Hey all, out of interest what is peoples experience with staying at either when it's not your home resort? Is it as difficult as i've heard rumours of?

Current booking window at 7 months is 14th Feb 2021.
Aulani has full availability. GC not so much - in fact nothing. You'd need to be lucky and very quickly on the trigger to get GC. You might be better off renting points from an owner and renting yours out to cover the cost. |

1 beds at Grand California are very doable. I’ve booked one twice (would have been there next week) but never stayed as both trips cancelled.
You may have to walk a bit- for this upcoming trip I’d booked it about 2 weeks before and walked it in for a little more ‘insurance’. I’m hoping for third time lucky- maybe next summer.

Aulani is extremely easy in most room categories (not all). I was still amending which room I was in two to three months before arrival (November 2017 and October 2018).
Hawaii is not looking a happy place at the moment with many businesses closing for good due to COVID. Worth keeping on eye on this over the next few months to see how it develops in case a one off trip is more enjoyable once they’ve started to recover...?

VGC I have once managed to grab a studio at seven months but it’s usually hard.

Interesting to see some getting into Grand Californian as typically very difficult. There are only 50 Villas: 48 two-bedroom villas, most of which can be split into a one-bedroom villa and a studio, and two three-bedroom Grand Villas. The demand there is very high and the direct price for Grand Californian is $280 per point and resale is typically around $200 per point.
You should have good success getting into Aulani. Jason Erpelding Lic. Real Estate Broker Buy and Sell DVC, Inc.®

I managed to get a studio in GCV but it was back in 2012 so probably things have changed since then.
