Another Mobile Abroad Question!
Hi Guys
Apologies to keep asking the same questions, but every time I think I have a solution, someone hurls another spanner! So essentially, I currently have a mobile on contract with O2. This contract is due to end this month, so I’ve contacted them regarding an upgrade. It’s not going to happen, as they want to charge me more than I can get a contract with them elsewhere for, plus they will only give me free data usage in the US if I upgrade to a 30gb data allowance. So, my thought was I would hold off on the upgrade until after my holidays (it’s getting close now and I’ve enough to do), and just unlock the phone to enable me to use a 3 pay as you go SIM whilst away. Apparently if I ask them for a code they will cancel my contract altogether, so that’s a no go too. I can rely on WiFi for the majority of the trip, but really need data when in DLC so that I can use MaxPass and stay in touch with my parents who will be elsewhere on the WC. Are there any other options that any lovely Dibbers can think of? Is the WiFi manageable in the parks for MaxPass, or am I wasting my time. I’m not paying £5 per day for a tiny amount of data with O2! Thanks in Advance Gill

Are you sure your phone is locked to O2? Try putting another SIM from a different operator in and see. You can buy SIMs for £1 from most supermarkets, Poundland etc. If it asks for a Network unlock code or similar then it is locked, if not then just get yourself the 3 SIM and use that.

Thanks Pompeyboy.
I’m pretty sure it is, as it was direct from O2 but I’ll see if the SIM from my work phone works in it now

You aren't asking for the PUK code at this stage just for them to unlock the phone to any SIM. These are two different things and and not related for this purpose.
Just get them to unlock the phone. |

Hi call o2 to unlock your phone I did this with my EE mobile they unlocked it for 9.99 which I thought was a very good price . I brought out my pro 20 contract and got Lycamobile pay as you go for around 14.00 which give me unlimited calls and texts in the USA all so some data.

That’s all I asked them about on the online chat. My exact words were “I’ll leave the upgrade until after my holidays, but can I get my phone unlocked in the mean time so that I can use another SIM when in the USA” the advisor said that unlocking my phone would cancel my contract (well the contract will be ended by then but you know what I mean) and that I would no longer have an O2 account to come back to
I’m so confused!

That’s what I’ve asked them to do, but they say they can’t without terminating my contract.
I’m not paying them either, they’ve had enough cash from me

As you are at the end of a contract anyway why don’t you just look at upgrading your phone even to another network? EE has quite good roaming, and you can add on a data pack to most of the packages that includes the US and potentially 3 might have a similar deal?

That is complete rubbish and against their own policy.
o2/help/phones-sim...ferent-network Use the form on there. You will still have to pay your monthly bill until you can cancel though, but you know that. |
