They are now routinely doing bowel screening for the over 55's.

Kevin. Do you mean the bowel screening kit they send you? The ones with 3 'windows' and little sticks?

If so please complete it as it's literally a life saver. Ok it isn't the easiest thing to do but well worthwhile.

Yes, you should do it. Gastroscopy looks at the stomach but no further. Bowel screening looks for signs of bleeding from the intestines beyond the stomach.

The "pooh-sticks" test is easy to do (I dab a liberal dose of Olbas Oil on my nose before I start 😂😂😂 ), and it is such a worthwhile test.

I also turned 55 and was sent the "invitation" to bowel scope screening - flexible sigmoidoscopy - it is a one off invitation i.e. they won't ask again - BUT you can ask for it to be done any time up to age 60 if it is not convenient at the moment. So if you are unsure, you can decline (or not reply to the invitation in our area)

was interesting.

They send you a do-it-yourself enema... which is ... well... interesting...

You can watch the procedure on the screen - which again is ... interesting

Yes you do, 2 different ends!

The National Bowel Screening Program offers you a Sigmoidoscopy at 55 and as long as that's clear the poo test that you do at home at 60. All differs per Health Authority of course and where I work it depends if the patients' GP surgery participates in the 55 screening.
