How to order at Wagamamas?
When we go to Manchester I know DH would love to try Wagamamas but I look at the menu and I’m clueless. I’m not very adventurous and I don’t eat red meat, don’t like peppers.
I’ve just been looking at the menu but I don’t really get it cos it just lists things it doesn’t appear to say starters/mains etc. Like I’ve just looked and there is ramen- it says soup but is that a starter or a main? If you go to Wagamamas what do you order? Do you order “bits” and share or do you order separates? Edited at 08:39 PM. |

We usually share the sides and then have a main each.
My favourite (well, let's be honest, the only thing I ever order) is the chicken katsu curry. |

Yasi Yaki Soba or chicken ramen are both good mains.

Gyozas, lots of them. Known in the US as potstickers. Little yummy dumplings with dipping sauce. Addictive and delicious. Then I usually had chicken ramen or yaki soba.
But I have to say, I don't go to Wagamama any more. They used to be great but in recent years they have cut corners and the food is now bland and dull. Loads of better Japanese restaurants out there. I've discovered amazing places with flavours that really sing. Manchester has a branch of Shoryu - go there and try the ramen. Particularly at this time of year as it's real comfort food! As for katsu, it just means cutlet. It's a breaded chicken (or sometimes pork) cutlet. If it says 'katsu curry' it comes with a curry sauce - not hot like Indian curry, more sweet. Usually comes with rice. manchestersfinest/eat...en-manchester/

So I’m looking at it now would it be too much for chicken gyoza (desperate? duck wraps to share and then chicken ramen (as my main) - would that be way too much food? Never been in so don’t know if they are big dishes or what?

You only get 5 gyoza and I could easily eat double that! We usually have one lot each - maybe one of us has duck and the other prawn. Then we share them.
You do get quite a big bowl of ramen but you don't have to eat it all. You need to remember that the food comes when it's ready. So you might still be eating your starter when the main comes. But seriously - do yourself a favour and go to Shoryu instead. Wagamama's is just bland tasteless dishwater these days.

I love the Chilli Squid but it is quite spicy.
Then I ALWAYS get teriyaki salmon soba teppanyaki. I love it so much! I would say the meals are quite big and filling. Me and the OH will share the squid and then sometimes struggle to finish our mains.

Where/what is Shoryu? I’m really not adventurous and this is why I stick with what I know and we tend to always go to the same places. We stop at media city and we pretty much always go to Alchemist. I would happily go there again because I like what I get but dh ends up getting something just for the sake of it and doesn’t overly enjoy it - I have chicken fajitas but he ended up just having fish and chips and he said it wasn’t all that. We have looked at Wagamamas and I know he wants to go but each time I’m like “ermmmm no!” Literally because I really don’t like the idea of going into a restaurant picking something blindly and then being stuck with it.
Sorry - just clicked on the link and found it thank you for the recommendation I’ll show him. Edited at 08:59 PM. |
