That could well end up being an expensive lesson and if the op is the one paying for the tests, not a useful one.

A lifetime ago but aged 15 in 1970 I was on the Buildings and we were allowed to drive the Ford Transits, 5 and 7 ton box vans. Plus the forklifts and if you were lucky you were allowed to try a 32+ ton Caterpillar Excavator which I did!

As soon as I was 17 I had 4 lessons with an Instructor just to pick up the tips ref adjusting the mirror etc and also to have his car for the test!

Not that I need it but I suspect I am the only Dibber with a track laying license for excavators

OP. Teenagers and advice. Mmm don’t waste your breath

What’s behind it is a combination of teenage arrogance and impatience, as it’s almost impossible to find an instructor up here at the moment.
If he feels he can do it then give it go worse case senario he fails and he’s £62 down but at least he’ll know what he needs to work on.dd was taught by her dad and only had 2 paid for lessons (she waited 6 months for an available Instructor)before passing last week. The instructor said she really didn’t need any lesson as her driving was good enough but she took the 2nd anyway as it was already paid for.

If he doesn’t have an instructor he will need to take the test in his own car so check the info on what the criteria is.

Most weird to drive with just levers not a steering wheel. Maybe some of the Ex Military on here might have such a license

We used the Dual Control cars from Arnold Clark which my son got for half price with a Young Scot Card. He had 4 or 5 official lessons and I know some of his friends passed with none/1 or 2.

I refused to take DD out in my car until she'd had some lessons. But as we were paying for the lessons anyway she was happy to cooperate.
