Spilt worktop oil in new kitchen

Hi all,
I oiled my oak worktops myself with Osmo oil, but stupidly wasn’t that careful with my brand new hob and my ceramic sink, I genuinely thought that the oil would just wipe off, well it didn’t, it’s like glue and dries cloudy.

I have a very small barely noticeable stain in my sink (I know it’s there but no one else would) but there is a more visible stain on my gas hob.
I have tried white spirits and nail varnish remover (with acetone). Any other ideas?
It’s not bad enough to change the hob, but it is annoying me

Oh no! What a pain. It would annoy me too. Once you know it's there it's all you'll look at. I then end up pointing out any imperfections to visitors 😂

What's your hob made of?

From Google...how to remove osmo from -

Glass... Fill a spray bottle with equal parts water and white vinegar. Spray the vinegar mixture onto the oil-affected area of the door, then wipe it off with a paper towel. Continue until the glass appears clear and free of oil and grease.

Brushed steel...
(from mumsnet... No I'm not on it... via Google 😂 ) someone mentioned trying Acetone nail polish remover, all I had was Acetone Free nail polish remover, but I tried it and it worked. With a little elbow grease it all came off, wiped it all down after with steel cleaner spray from Wilko and it all looks good as new!

Oh my... what a shame!

Hopefully you can get the stains off. On both, I would consider BarKeepers Friend (original powder version), or a hob cleaner called Wellco cream ceramic hob cleaner. It is brilliant at restoring glass hobs.

Best of luck!

Contact the manufacturers of Osmo to see what they can suggest?

Sorry to hear here some ideas

Acetone : nail varnish remover
Xylene/toluene : specialist paint thinner (halfords)

Ethanol: methylated spirits hasn't done much so I would try the above.

I would then try chlorinated solvents. Dichloromethane or similar. On ebay but expensive.

Thanks! I’ll try the nail polish remover again. I didn’t use loads of elbow grease as I was worried about rubbing off the black markings, but I’ll give it another shot. I’m so clumsy 😂

Have you tried Astonish Oven and grill cleaner? Was recommended to me by the people that fitted my quartz worktops in case I marked them with anything. It is amazing
