London hotels?

I've just booked to visit my dad in Cambridge next month (travelling from NI), and as we aren't getting a holiday this year we've decided to get the train to London and stay 2 nights as well.
Neither of us have been to London in quite a few years, and most times we have went as adults have been day trips, so I've never had to book a hotel before.
I'm conscious I'm getting quite close to our dates (12th-14th July) and that hotel prices in the UK in general are going up, so I want to try and get something booked soon, but I don't even know where to start?!

We don't have anything in particular we want to see. My sister is going to travel to meet us for the day (I think she's coming in to Waterloo), and we're going to be flying out of Stansted. We maybe want to go to the Zoo for the day, and then I'm a bit of a foodie so would like to get some nice food... but other than that, no set plans just yet!

Last week we stayed at the Park Plaza County Hall, based on a thread on here, and it was great.

As a relatively frequent visitor to London, I knew the location would be spot-on. You'll be able to see all you want without having to jump on public transport if you don't want to - central London is surprisingly compact.

We paid a bit more for a high floor with London Eye views, which was a nice addition.

Anywhere in a similar area would be a great base for you - there's a Premier Inn nearby for example - with loads to see and do. Waterloo is a short walk away too.

We just spent a night at the Hard Rock which is at the top of Oxford Street. We could see Marble Arch from our window and it’s right next to Hyde Park. The hotel was immaculate, food was great, breakfast was plentiful 😊. I can’t tell you the price as we bought a voucher that someone had posted on here. But, for a little nod to Florida holidays, it might be worth a look 😊

Views can be difficult to achieve in London but when I was working, my job was to organise hotels and travel for our staff and visitors. A couple of the popular hotels were the St Giles and the Premier Inn South Bank for their location. I have also personally used the Premier Inn Hub at Goodge Street and I was very impressed. The St Giles hotel is just off Tottenham Court Road as is the Hub. Very easy walk to shops, theatres and restaurants. The South Bank premier inn is close to a tube and the Borough Market area which is a surviving link to old London. It’s a lovely walk along the south bank (since most of the sights are on the north bank) to the London Eye and beyond.

The Premier Inn Hub at Westminster Abbey is good. We stayed there a couple of years ago and are going again in July.

We have 5 days booked, in August, at the Hilton Kings Cross. We booked it ages ago though so got a very good rate.

South Bank area would be good as also near Waterloo. We enjoy the food market at the South Bank Centre. Lots of different cuisines.

We always stay at the Premier Inn at Tower Hill (Prescot Street) or the Aldgate one, they are a couple of minutes apart. One of our favourite things to do is walk across Tower Bridge and along the South Bank to Westminster.

We always stay at Kings Cross Premier Inn now (our train gets into Kings Cross and it's only 3 mins away) - its a great location for transport everywhere and the hotel itself is a really nice recently redone Premier Inn.
We've booked 2 nights next month for £153.
