We haven't been since 2013, and only decided in March to take the plunge and go again (this time just the two of us), so it's definitely a brand new booking.

All these families booking holidays for May/June next year, are you including the cost of fines for removing kids from school?
Are fines even a thing anymore? |

Down to the school and discretion of the head. Ours gives us 5 days of authorised absence per school year but have ourselves been fined for exceeding that previously having been denied it once.
It was only £60 for our one child if paid within a given time which we believe was much better than the hundreds more the holiday would have cost to go in school holidays. |

What an interesting and great thread
We're limited by GCSE and A level results, college/Uni inductions in later Aug and are booked for mid July (this year, fingers crossed) 2A 2C (now 16 & 18 though , also last one with DD off to Uni once we're back) 23 days, flights with BA and big car £2600 14 Day Ultimates £1600 2 nights Rosen Inn using Avios points and £20 tesco's, hotels.com vouchers 1 night HRH £140 tesco's, hotels.com vouchers + £80 cash 20 nights in nice Villa, hot tub, heated pool, games room etc... £2200 Bonus night in Swan £220 with BA OrlandoAttractions 7 days Universal with Gatorland thrown in £900 All in around £8k and we budget around £2k for petrol/parking/spending/food and normally come in under that - which is good as we don't feel restricted, we eat OOP wherever we like (lots of QS and off site, Texas roadhouse on the 192 is our favourite, also a few meals in BOG, ESPN for the football, or sci-fi dine or similar and Walmart for snacks in the villa) Bit more expensive than more recent trips, we normally come in £7-8k, £8500 once when we also renewed our wedding vows by st Pete's (Mediera beach) and booked ceremony and photographer etc... Best bit was us and the kids all dressed up going to the (best ever) local pizza place/bar to get a pizza that was enormous Because it's our last one (for now) most of the extra cost is doing Universal too, we normally do 21 days Disney Ultimate and mix in local stuff like beach days, cheap seaworld/busch. Couldn't do that this time with the 21 days being pulled |

I didnt factor that in to my costs, but would be £120 as its £60 per parent per week for each week after the first 5 days. Still much cheaper than school holidays.
