Plug in hybrid cars

Does anyone have any views either way on plug in hybrids? Work have offered me a company car, I don’t really want to go completely electric, so figured hybrid may be a good bet, considerably lower tax than petrol.
I’ve narrowed it, I think, to the VW Golf GTE and the Mercedes A 250 e. Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with either?
Thanks

I have the BMW 330e as a company car...great car - loved it... and it took the tax down, its 3 years old now though

Im changing next week to a Tesla model 3, which will be even better on tax...
Why not look at full electric?.

I had a Golf GTE before changing to pure electric. Great car. With regular charging and short journeys economy is great. I got a long term average of over 250 mpg.

Don't know but son has researched thoroughly and just ordered a Volvo XC60 hybrid. Full electric wouldn't tow for him hence the hybrid.

I wonder what will happen to the billions of batteries discarded over the next 30 years.
Apparently it’s very expensive to recycle them due to toxic materials and a risk of them exploding. Is it really the environmental revolution we are being sold.
This probably won’t be a problem at first but once the cars enter the second hand market and they are priced at a few hundred quid and everyone drives them I think you are going to get many people dumping these batteries rather than spend money to recycle them.
I can’t see some countries spending the money on recycling.they couldn’t afford it.

surely when the cars are scrapped the batteries will be dealt with as per RHOS

or do you have to replace the battery after x years/miles ?

even then would be done in same way tyres are now in terms of disposal surely?

They will have to be recycled by law. But how many people recycle batteries now. Most people put them in the bin. The only difference will be car batteries won’t fit in a wheel bin so will be dumped in fields and rivers all over the world. In fact it would not surprise me if we send our batteries abroad to contaminate their countries now. 1.5 billion bars that’s a lot of batteries. Hope the recycling keeps up with the technology.

Replacing an EV battery will be beyond the capabilities of pretty much the entire population of the general public. If you do see one dumped in a field, pick it up, even as an end of life EV battery it will still be worth a considerable lump of cash.

I had the choice between plug in or full electric when changing my company car last March. I ended up taking the plunge and going full electric, I have found it works really well for me. I can do a round trip to the office (60 miles) easily on a single charge, and manage the next day (if I forget to charge). I have also found that it is a very small portion of my driving that I would need to think about charging away from home.
I've also found that the increased electricity bill for charging (overnight) is a lot less than the old fuel bills, meaning even more of a saving on top of the minimal BIK to pay.

We have had a merc AMG 250e for a few months now and love it. We also had a charging point in at home and just moved onto a special Octopus energy rate which gives us v cheap charging overnight. Husband says he's only put about £30 of petrol in since he bought it. Tech on it is amazing. Let me know if you have any questions
