Tell me everything about Pop century

We have only ever stayed in a moderate, but we now thinking just to stay at pop century rather than staying offsite as my son loves to be in the Disney Bubble. I would like anyone to tell me positive and any negative of staying here. I loved POFQ, but I shouldn’t compare. Any help please.

Following with interest! We have just booked 9 nights here for January.

We have previously stayed at POR and SSR. Were seriously considering offsite, but Pop actually worked out cheaper than the Disney Springs area hotels once you take into account resort fees.

The skyliner is something we are definitely looking forward to.

We've seen lots of YouTube room tours and resort tours and are looking forward to experiencing it for ourselves.

I love Pop! After several trips it is my "go to" resort in WDW.

Rooms are fantastic especially after the fairly recent (2017-2018 ish) refurb. I really like how there is a lot of lighting in the rooms, and there are USB charging points and regular power points everywhere. If you only need one bed, you can leave the other bed up - this gives you more floor space and also a huge table to use.

Skyliner is fantastic. It was running on my last stay there (late 2019). I loved how I could go from my room to the gates of DHS in maybe 15 minutes and Epcot in maybe 30 minutes. The most amazing thing about the Skyliner is the lack of waiting time for it - just get to the station, get on the Skyliner, and go! The downside to the Skyliner is that it wasn't operating at very early/late hours, and it gets shut down if there is lightning in the area or if there are any other systems issues.

Pop is a huge resort and it can take quite a bit of time to walk between the buildings. On my first stay there I wasn't aware of just quite how large it was before, and ended up in the 90s which was a decent trek away from the main facilities. Since then I usually look up resort maps to try and choose a block/area that I would find convenient or would like staying in, and put in a room request for that block/area. They've been pretty good about giving me rooms that are quite close to what I've requested!

Buses generally pretty good. The upside of buses at Pop is that they come fairly frequently, I think possibly because there are just so many people staying at Pop and bus is the main mode of transportation for most parks/areas. Also, if you are coming back from a park/DS, the Pop and AoA bus stops are usually right next to each other, so if the AoA bus comes first you can always just take it to AoA and walk over the bridge from AoA back to Pop.

Food court - can't really comment the food seems to keep changing and I don't eat there that much! But seems to have at least a few different types of food available and is fairly big? You can also walk across the bridge to AoA if you want to try out the AoA food court.

If you run - there is a really nice running path that goes around Hourglass Lake. I think it is a mile or so in total. It's also nice to walk around too!

Pop appeals to us for a variety of reasons. Lovely food court with the option to use the food court at AoA (same as POFQ to POR). One queue for the bus stops, no picking other people up on a tour of the resort car parks (same as POFQ, unless you’re on a random on that does go to POR). Skyliner is a major draw (as is the boat to DS for us at POFQ).

So for us, if there were no food related deals making POFQ a value for money option then we’d go to Pop. Staying offsite could make sense but if mainly doing Disney they adding in car hire, car parking and time travelling the Pop makes then most sense.

We’re staying in POP for the first time hopefully in July but if we can’t go we will move it to Feb half term. I’ve always wanted to stay there but it was always cheaper to staying in POR or CBR. We can’t wait to finally stay here & use the skyliner & the rooms look lovely too.

Is the 60s ‘preferred’ so costs extra? I thought I read that.

Where is best to stay if you don’t have a ‘preferred’ room?

There were non-preferred rooms in the 60s when I was there end 2019. I had one of those rooms! If I recall correctly the ones facing the pool were preferred pool and the ones facing away from the pool were regular rooms.

That being said not sure if the preferred/non-preferred rooms have changed since they added the Skyliner.
