We were caught up in Hurricane Ivan and then Jeanne which was downgraded to a cat 4 when it struck Orlando.
I would recommend making sure you have a supply of water, batteries and torches and some tinned or non perishable food encase of a power outage. Have your villa info pack to hand for emergency numbers. While you have power track the storm on TV it is important to adhere to the recommendations but try not to be too concerned as presenters do tend to 'dramatise' it somewhat. Aside from that there is nothing you can do but ride it out as they say. Stay Inside, even when it seems to calm down as its probably the eye passing and you will still have the back end of the storm to come. You will be fine, we had power restored within 2 days and when we went into the parks it was business as usual. Storm damage on the highways and surrounding areas but the parks were immaculate. Stay safe! |

We were in publix last night and there was very little water left. What they did have left they were limiting purchases of.

We should have flown out W days before Irma hit. I cancelled because I knew I'd be flying into a bad situation. Can you cancel and rebook?

We were also there for Irma. Publix had leaflets advising you what to do, which was quite handy.
Get some freezer bags, fill with water and freeze, handy for keeping things cool. Plenty of snack stuff, you might not have power. Fill the baths with water., handy for washing/flushing etc Keep the car petrol tank full. Keep passports, money, credit cards, clean pants and shirt in a “grab bag”. So in case you are to be evacuated, you have the essentials ready to go, no messing about packing stuff. Plenty of batteries, and torches (as when the children go to toilet, they leave you sat in darkness) Garden furniture in the garage. You’ll also find neighbours on the estate will help each other. We had phone and internet but no tv, we also had power, but down the street didn’t have power. Watch out for any flood water and critters. Edited at 08:30 PM. |

We were staying in a villa when Wilma hit a number of years ago. Flyers were put through the doors of our villa telling us what to do, which included putting patio furniture in the swimming pool.
The parks were shut for the day and that night was a tremendous storm and very windy but it passed over relatively quickly.

IMO... only the pool if no sensible room elsewhere. Garage might get taken up by the car and brining them inside could then make ‘escape’ difficult in dark conditions.

We are here now and went to Walmart there was no water left at all and our Uber driver told us that would be the case all over now. We are staying on site at universal so I’m guessing water will be made available!

Disney preparing for Dorian
Our friends out there at the moment noticed a delivery truck at their resort off loading pallets and over heard cast members saying that they are the hurricane packs for guests.
Worried they asked at front desk and were told not to worry, they are just preparing, they just have to be ready in case of a full lock down. I havent read anything about Disney officially making statements yet.

Two years ago, this was us. We were travelling on the 8th of September and Irma was due to hit on the 10th. I have written a trip report about it, which you can read in the link in my signature.
We’ve also been caught in a few other hurricanes and tropical storms, but Irma was the big one for us. We actually slept through most of Irma, except for a really scary part where the fire alarm was tripped. We were staying on-site at the Art of Animation.
