Recommendations for pocket wifi - Japan
Hi ALl,
Last year when I went to Japan, I stayed in Airbnb's which included pocket wifi devices which I found invaluable. I'm going back in Feb and am staying in hotels this time so won't have wifi when I'm out & about so am after recommendations for which companies to use for pocket wifi devices? I've been doing some reading but there seems to be too much choice |

I didnt even know there was a choice. I go back to Japan in July, we are getting a JR pass, and they advertise pocket wifi devices there. I assumed there was only 1 available. What the best price you can find ?

Hi,
I've looked up a few - Genki Mobile, Japan Wifi Buddy and Japan Wireless seem to be coming up with the best deal. We're going for 17 days in total, looking at approx £50 -£55 including delivery to either hotel or pickup at the airport. I don't have a clue about any of their reputations though... I didn't know JR did them. |

If you have a phone you can swap the SIM out of, this might be of interest:

We used Japan Wireless last year. Really easy to do, I ordered it online and paid through PayPal, so I knew the payment was secure. The pocket Wi-Fi was waiting for us at the hotel when we arrived, (although I hadn't expected it until the next day, so that was excellent service), and we used it extensively for our week in Japan. You can connect up to 10 devices so we had both our phones, and our tablets, connected. We were then able to use Google maps when out and about, and we got brilliant internet connections everywhere. You get a charger with the unit as well, so we just charged it up a couple of times overnight.
On the day we were leaving to go to Hong Kong, I just popped the unit, charger, etc. into the pre-paid returns bag, and left it with our hotel reception, although you can also put it into a postbox if you find one. Within a day we had an email confirming the return had been received. They gave us excellent customer service at a really good price, I was very impressed with the company and would definitely use them again.

We got ours from Klook, prebooked in the UK and then just picked it up at the airport when we arrived.
