Mobile Passport question - SN

I know there are a few of you on here who have children with autism.

My son is now 19 and I’m having to renew his passport. This will be his first adult passport.

He can physically sign the application form, but I am his appointee and deal with all other aspects of paperwork etc for him, as he doesn’t have the understanding etc.

He understands the info that we’ve filled out as it’s just his name, address etc.

I’m not sure whether he should sign, or should I do it and fill in section 8 saying why he hasn’t?

In his current passport, his signature appears because it was asked for due to him being between 12-15 at the time. But, I still signed the declaration, not him.

I don’t want to do things wrong, and need the passport before we go away at Easter.

So, those of you in a similar position, what did you do?

My son is autistic and he has learning difficulties and can not manage money etc, but he signed his name for his adult passport. I told him, it was so we can go to a Florida, this was when he was 18. He would not be able to read or fill up a form, but can sign his name. This is what we did.
