1st time using a scooter - don't do what I did

Lesson learned, in AK yesterday, parked up and surrounded by people, wanted to back up a little so I could pull out as no one was moving, unfortunately as I looked backwards I pushed the wrong control and went forward, hitting a Brasilian full on , lucky I wasn't in a Disney scooter, just a small one and not much damage done. They didn't speak English and we didn't speak Portuguese, but got a CM and all was sorted. Though I expect on the Brasilian version of the Dibb, there will be a thread about how stupid Brits are

You are not alone! Just got back, My DH had scooter for first time & rode up a Brazilian's leg in HS as he tried to pull the brake on to stop as the idiot did actually walk straight into him as was looking down at his phone, but obviously you hold it in to go! Natural reaction to want to pull it in like bike brakes until you get used to it! LOL

Surprising in the crowds how invisible a Mobility Scooter & Wheelchair being pushed was for us! 10 times in HS one day my teenage DD had people kick/ trip over her legs as they just weren't looking. She was getting so distressed was tempted to hire a 2nd scooter & Let them have it in the legs back!

It's like you've got Harry Potter's invisibility cloak on. They even walk straight into you after staring at you as they're walking towards you- unbelievable!

I use a scooter at home but find it so exhausting using one at the parks as you're constantly trying to avoid people and second guessing when they are going to cross straight as ross your path as well.

Still, at least I'm at the parks

I've been using my scooter now for over 10 years so cannot understand how someone who is walking and looking at their phone expects us to fly over them, when I stop so they can go around me they tut and look at me like I'm a freak, they look like what your in a scooter and can't just go around me easily. 😡

Talking about accidents will the very first time I went out in my scooter, I went on a Sunday so does we not busy, went down one isle DH turned around to go back the other way, for a shoot second I'd forgotten I can't just turn around to follow him, but tried anyway missed the angles completely and went into a display of boxes of crisps on top of each other bringing them all down, DH had a commotion turned around and seen me trying to balance the boxes of crisps, he was creased up laughing at me I shouted for him to help me so I could get out the shop ASAP I never did get what I went in for, for months I'd make sure I did not go back into that so incase it happened to me again,
I'm a lot more confident in my scooter now, I can do a 3 point turn without even thinking about it. 😀

I get the invisible thing too - I know mobiles are great when you’re on the go but I wish people would stop when using them! However my biggest Disney problem was ME! Twice I have thought that the pavement and road were level and drove the scooter straight off the kerb!
