I've booked it - Shanghai and Tokyo this September...OMG

Can't believe I've just gone and booked it! Before Shangai opened, we had done all Disney Parks, having done Tokyo in 2010, which we loved!

Being a special birthday for DW and I, plus anniversary this year, I have just spent 204000 Avios points (Using an Amex 2 for 1 voucher) for First Class BA return tickets, to Shanghai in mid September!

Exact itinerary to be decided, but since we land at 07.55 in Shanghai and will be tired no doubt, I thought say 3 full days in the Shanghai Disney hotel, plus 1 spare for a city tour etc. We have seen Shanghai before as part of an overall China tour, for 3 days in the past.

Then we can fly internally to Tokyo (3 hour flight) for say 3 nights in Tokyo Disney resort hotel (Narita?), get the coach shuttle (?) and stay in Disney etc. Then we will have around 4 days to explore Tokyo or Kyoto, or somewhere else?

We will have to fly back to Shanghai the evening before, since the return flight to LHR is 11am (how nice to have a day flight home, especially in First!), so we can stay in an airport hotel that night in Shanghai, ready for the morning flight home.

How does that all sound? Any hints, tips, observations etc will be very much appreciated!

Thanks - very excited now!

Hi Ian,

So exciting! Definitely you need to see Kyoto on your trip, if you set off early enough & bullet train it, you could do it in a full day...but it would be a bit a very busy day. Enjoy your planning

Fantastic, that is really good to know, didn't think I could do it in a day! Lots of research clearly to do, but having done Tokyo for 4 nights last time, I feel there is so much more to see and do in Japan!

Thanks for that, appreciate the tip!

Your trip sounds amazing, have a fab time!

We are planning TOKYO Feb 19.

Did you book via there website? If so please help Is there any reason if I select a package we can only do a 2 night stay but if we select a hotel we can choose a 5 night stay?

Thanks in advance x

We went to Shanghai and Tokyo Disney last October. We only spent a day at SDL early on, would have liked another day, but we moved on to the Great Wall. We stayed at TSH and found it nice.

Note you will be there during typhoon season, so get insurance. We were scheduled to leave Beijing on Sunday Oct 22nd and our flight got cancelled (when we got to the gate...) and we couldn't get out until Wednesday morning to go to Japan (where the typhoon hit). We ended up spending 2 half days and 1 full day at TDR before moving on to Kyoto. Spend a couple of days in Kyoto at a ryokan (may have misspelled that) as you will enjoy it. Another typhoon hit while we were in Kyoto so we got a bit wet, but bought umbrellas and had our rain ponchos from TDR.

Good luck and enjoy!

Hi - yes, booked Shanghai Disney a couple of weeks ago, choosing a Club/Concierge room, park view I think. Its a bit extra, but you get breakfast, 'happy hour' complimentary drinks of an evening (we have no kids), 20% of their fine dining restaurant etc., so should be good.

Disney Tokyo booking window is only up to mid September, so a couple of weeks to go yet, but I am choosing a similar room there for us, overlooking the park.

If you book the vacation package, you can only book 3 days/2 nights as the is the way they allow you book it 'all in one'; they assume no-one wants longer! We do, so we are booking hotel first, then adding on tickets separately. We did it for Shanghai, and it looks easy, and you can choose, day by day, when you want your tickets for (eg., we want a city tour so won't need park tickets for that day, so we don't have to pay for one!).

Oooh, thanks for the Typhoon warning. We were caught right in the middle of Hurricane Irma in Florida last September and that was horrific - don't want another experience like that! Fingers crossed!...

Kyoto looks good, hope to spend some time there.

Thanks again.

I went last year and stayed in Shanghai DLH in Club. It was a fantastic experience - you get your own private check in experience at the 7th floor and they are happy to set up anything you want there (e.g. buying park tickets, restaurant reservations, etc). And then you get all the use of the Club lounge, which includes a full breakfast (it was a fantastic spread that included things like congee and noodles even, with freshly squeezed fruit juice and other things), afternoon snacks, and what they call evening snacks but to be honest is a good enough spread for a full dinner (and the CMs even refer to it as dinner). Oh and you can go and watch the fireworks from the lounge as well and they pipe in the music. Apparently Mickey shows up at some point before bedtime but I never made it to see him.

I've never stayed Club in other Disney hotels, but looking at various reviews of the WDW Club hotels online it seems like you get a lot more staying Club at Shanghai DLH...
