BA have changed our flights - advice please
We're going at Easter - 4 adults and 4 children under 11. Took ages to find flights that didn't have long waits between the two parts of the journey and we booked Heathrow to Chicago to Florida last July. I just went online to add passport info and found that BA have changed the flight times; the first one is 25 minutes later and the second is a different flight that leaves a 5 hour wait in Chicago - the very thing we tried to avoid. If we hadn't minded a delay we could have gone much cheaper. I'm feeling very upset - this is the first day of our once-in-a-lifetime holiday together and it's already gone wrong. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice appreciated.

Ring them. You may be able to swap to something more suitable Have a look first and see what you would be happy with so that you can suggest an alternative. I'm sure I've seen on here that some people have even managed to get swapped to direct flights. A case of if you don't ask, you'll never know.

Yep. Virgin cancelled my return flight today and I’d paid for seats both ways. I’ve been changed to flying a day earlier and leaving a day earlier as the indirect flight offered on the same return date for the same price was not acceptable to me. I’m now waiting on what can be done about our pre booked seats. It is what it is they can unfortunately do this. I’ve had to have the hotel booking changed too.
It’s a major pain but don’t look at it as having ruined your holiday already because it’s going to happen so you need to just get on with it. It’s a flight. They’re all long and boring. I had a detailed 15 day plan with 16 ADRs booked. I’ve had to do all that again today too. But as said. It is what it is. I just got into it immediately. Edited at 08:13 PM. |

Definitely ring them a few years ago we booked with AA who codeshare with BA. They changed our return flight to have a 50 minute change over which we weren’t happy with as it was our first time flying indirect. I had a look what other flights were on offer and phoned and asked could we be changed to a different flight which they agreed to do for us not only that we also got a free upgrade in the process to Club world plus (premium economy) on the BA flight we were very happy with the outcome. Hope you are able to get something that suits your needs too. X

Contact BA (or whoever’s you booked with) and suggest an alternative. We had the exact same - we had booked to fly LHR to Orlando via Chicago, Our Orlando to Chicago flight changed and we were left with a 7 hour layover - like you, the exact thing I didn’t want with two young children in tow! I suggested to my agent (Omega) an alternative flight on the same day via Miami and BA agreed to this, we now have a shorter layover and a quicker ongoing flight. Give it a try x

No need to be upset, research the options before you phone BA and tell them your preferred choice as an alternative. If there is availability you may well get a direct flight.

BA did this with us last year - outward flight was via Dublin, and the flight from LGW to DUB got cancelled. Called BA and they were great - we got put on the direct LGW to MCO flight.

Exact same thing happened to us last year, I called BA and they changed a flight to a better one. Worth having a look at what your options are and which flight you’d like before you call as they were willing to change us to any of them.

Are you sure BA changed it? Is it an AA codeshare? American Airlines change flights a lot more frequently than European ones
