Car hire Miami airport

We always fly into Orlando airport and usually manage a free upgrade for car hire. Thinking of flying into Miami this year as flight prices are better. Does anyone have experience of car hire in Miami airport - is there as much selection of cars as in Orlando? Thanks

There are many different companies down in Miami same as most airports. It depends which company you are intended to use. We used Avis in august who allocate a car to you but there were plenty of cars. Miami is a BIG airport and the car hire area is in a massive multi-storey so I would assume there are lots of cars.

There is loads of choice at Miami. We always use Alamo and they seem to have just as much choice as at Orlando x

We used Avis at Miami last summer. Got allocated a car. It was OK, but nothing special. I prefer the system of choosing your own in MCO

Just back from Miami , we used Alamo. Did online check in. Straight to garage, paid for standard suv. Choice was all Santa fe’s . Got free upgrade to grand caravan with all the whistles and bows, including sat nav. Really lovely car to drive. Well pleased. Car hire place a monorail ride away from terminal. Loads of cars available.

How do you know which companies let you pick and which assign a car?

Alamo let you pick. Unless things have changed since last time the others all allocate you a car, but a polite request usually generates what you want in a big location like MCO or MIA as there are so many cars coming in. Dollar tried to allocate me a car with loads of scratches and dents and 48,000 miles on it once but a quick trip to the office resulted in an apologetic swap to a new Chrysler 300.

I'd always go for Alamo by choice these days as I find they tend to have newer cars and getting what you want is easier
