Universal in the rain
We had premium seating booked for Volcano Bay today so attempted it despite the weather forecast, we gave up by 11.30 when none of the flumes or pools had been opened and the thunder was getting louder!
so we decided to give universal another go as we were there (hadn't been impressed with the wait times and heaving crowds last week). The cheap ponchos I'd bought did not stand up to the rain and were already ripped and we were drenched by the time we even got on the shuttle bus back to the parking. so we kept our swimming gear (with thin t-shirt and shorts over) and water shoes on and headed in. It was fantastic! Harry potter rides were walk on and we had a good look around Diagon Alley, Simpsons ride was a 10 min wait and the queues for Krusty Burger were non existent, then we went over to IOA and did the hulk ride twice, walk on the first time and 10 min wait the second time for front of the line! It was nice to have a good look around properly, could barely move in Hogsmede last week and today it was beautifully quiet. Don't quite know what the point of this post is but we really felt like we were winning today! And we didn't care that we were soaked, as it wasn't cold and it made the water rides all the more enjoyable! |

I see it as the brits one advantage we have over the rest of the world and that's the ability to carry on even when it's raining (Snow is always one step to far for us! )
I really don't mind the odd wet day as long as I prepared with the right clothing. Like yourself parks are managable and it also gives to space to just see more than the crowds of people. Also with rain days they create an unexpected and unplanned day, which for a holiday that is normally set to a time schedule creates a memorable day for all. |

Reminds me of one of our very favourite Orlando days. It couldn’t have rained any harder as we walked towards the Universal entrance. Everyone was walking away from the park and we walked against the flow towards the entrance. Asked staff on the gate if the rides we’re open and were told unless the thunder and lightening started then the rides would remain open. We’re Brits -a bit of rain isn’t going to stop us. We went on everything multiple times. The queue for the Harry Potter rides were as long as it took us to walk round to get back on. Didn’t bother with ponchos just got wet and laughed ! It was one of those days that will stay in our memories forever. Thanks for reminding me ! I’m sure OP your family will be the same !

We were once at Universal Hollywood where they had torrential rain all day (a rare occurence in L.A.) It was so bad they opened up the actual sound stages - showed new films - Shrek at the time and handed out free hot chocolate. They dragged out all the characters for meet & greets.
Later in the day we heard there had been loads of car accidents on the roads because SoCals are not used to driving in wet conditions. |

Totally agree, we went to epcot once and it absolutly tipped it down. there were families running out of the park huddling up under any shelters they could find looking at the sky. me and the mrs were laughing, thinking whats all the fuss about, its only rain (which is nice and warm) got back to our resort and found out it was a tropical storm and in the states they take it quite serious...
still dont know what the fuss was about. had a great day anyway

We were in Orlando in 2004 when hurricane Frances rolled through - I remember the morning that the parks reopened (we were offsite) we were not sure what to do as it was wet and miserable, but we decided to head to the magic kingdom and we had the best day ever
We have some hilarious photos with characters with us dripping wet, make up down my face etc and the place was like a ghost town! We had pictures in front of the castle with no one else in the picture and the rides were walk on all day (and were for the whole of our holiday it seemed) It’s one of my favourite days ever in the parks and I remember it far more than the usual hot sunny ones |

Always a plus, rainy days, you can see that 90% of the people still walking around are the British! who cares its rain! It makes a gloomy day into a great day...

We got extra FOP FP, so rode 3 times that day, due to rain. Rain is the Brits friend.
One year we were in Universal and there was a hurricane warning. It was dead and the staff all had radios so the park could be shut within minutes if needed. We had a great day, it wasn't even raining, just overcast!
