There are no hidden charges with BA Fly Drive. You get exactly what you have paid for (and usually a better deal than booking direct). What I would recommend is to apply for Avis Preferred and link to your booking - it's free - then at the airport you go straight to the garage kiosk where your car will be waiting for you. First time you do have to show your voucher to the clerk at the little kiosk and they will show you where your car is. There is no sell up pressure. If you don't like car you can change to a different one in the exchange row but any price increase will be shown on the tag hanging from the rear view mirror.
You drive to the exit. The clerk scans your voucher and car barcode and off you go. Next time you use Preferred your name will be on a board telling you which bay your car is in. (Again you can exchange if you want to). You go straight to it. Keys are in car. Drive to exit, get scanned and off you go. Takes all of ten minutes including loading your luggage .
Avoids all that desk queuing and annoyance with the clerks at the desks in the terminal.

Thanks for replies, just need to get on with it now. It’s the only thing I have left to book.

We used our debit card last year it wasn't a problem but our bank advised us that we should of used our credit card when we tried to get back over £200 of charges that Avis took once we were home even though we had a zero balance! Would of used the credit card if the bank hadn't blocked it but they did eventually get the charges back for us.

Just check on the Avis app that you can see your booking if not then it’s not linked.

Out of interest - Can you pay for a full tank of petrol(return date) when you initially collect the car at the kiosk or should this have been arranged prior to collecting the car? If you can, how much will this roughly be at the kiosk? I assume this is easier than trying to find a petrol garage before handing back?

Also - re the 'Exchange row' can you change from say a Category 'D' to an SUV? or is this best to do beforehand?
