Can anyone recommend accommodation in Crete? We want a villa or apartment with at least 1 bedroom. We would like a shared pool and somewhere child friendly (but not all inclusive style with entertainment all day). We want to be be within 1.5 hours max to Knossos. Any hidden gems out there?

Ive only been to Crete once, to a little area near Hersonissos called Koutouloufari. The village blends in to Piskapiano, which is where lots of lovely little tavernas are. It was such a relaxed and lovely village.

We stayed self catering in an apartment as a couple, but it did have 2 beds, 1 upstairs and one down.
The place was called Petra Village and had a small pool.

We went many years ago to a place called Sissi...it was really
Lovely and we visited Knossos so could not be far...people I have spoke to who have been recently said it has not changed much in all those years...that holiday always reminds me of sitting on my own on a chair by the sea having a Shirley Valentine moment😁 x

Rouga tou Paoula is the best restuarant in that area, hands down. Great value, good quality Raki and dessert is included in your meal.

Atrium Bar is great for early cocktails and people watching.

I'd avoid Emmanuel Taverna - they market themselves well but it's all reheated tourist pap, not worth the money or effort.

Nikos the Fisherman is a great fish restaurant, very fresh and good value.
