Disney seems more and more about getting people into their hyper-expensive merch shops and $100 a head restaurants than anything else. Walt would not have approved of this commercialism.

We just got back from Florida and this was our first time so no idea what it was like prior to this, however for us, the disney cast members were all incredibly lovely, happy, ever so helpful. In comparison Universal staff, almost without exception, where surly and grumpy and acted like we were the inconvenience. The hotel staff in Royal Pacific were amazing, but the park staff were awful tbh.

Florida is a wonderful place without Disney and Universal. For years we went to neither, only returning when we had kids. But we went to Florida every year.
Soon Universal will have the massive Epic Universe which will really make it a 1-2 week destination and start to put some real pressure on Disney.
Due to the very poor park experience we had at Disney last Xmas (was very poor in MK in particular, which was simply unacceptable and many others we spoke to on that trip said the same) we made a conscious decision not to return for the foreseeable future. Given we have almost 400 DVC points, that’s some decision to make, we have banked a lot this year. However we stayed VGC so used quite a few there. And we are staying Vero 3 nights soon so that’s some more used. Next year we will have almost 500.
We are now thinking we may be ready to return Xmas 2023. Hopefully by then improvements will be made with Genie and staffing compared to Xmas 2021. I accept we may have to totally change our rope drop and leave after lunch park pattern as that just doesn’t work for Genie at WDW and rope drop has lost most of its advantages.

I would now, quite happily vacation in Florida, sampling everything from the Alabama Border, down to Key West. It is a brilliant Coastline, with warm water and plenty to do.

I have no need to ever visit Orlando again, Mouse, Universal or anything else. It no longer interests us, now that the boys are out of the equation.

The thing is that without the big eared rodent, we would never have gone to Florida in the first place and then later, seen what else is on offer.

Walt seemed quite happy to charge people to enter the parks... and then charge them again to go on the rides. And also to flog expensive merchandise and food to them whilst there.

Admittedly he did it with all his usual vaudeville charm, panache and "magic" so that people felt happy to be parted with their cash. Whereas nowadays the Disney company is much more open about extracting as much money from guests as possible, which understandably leads to some resentment.

I'm 58, go solo and Magic Kingdom is my favourite park. I like being a big kid with no-one caring and it's a break from the stresses and strains of real life.
