Recently qualified Vet Nurses (in South Wales)?

Hi Dibbers

I am hoping to study Vet Nursing in the near future and was wondering how others have managed to do it?

Ideally an apprenticeship would be best for me. I am a parent with a mortgage, so would need to earn some money as I work!

Thanks in advance for any responses!

My son’s girlfriend is currently studying vet nursing, and is employed at our local vets in Newport. The pay isn’t great but she accepts she is working towards a long term goal. She is finding the study quite hard at the moment, and fitting it in around work can be hard for her, but if it’s something you really want, then you will do it!

Feel free to dm me if you want.

I’m currently a student vet nurse. I was employed as a VCA then after 6 months was offered a student nurse position. Mine is the apprenticeship route. I work in London and my pay is £21,000 a year so not great for how expensive everything costs. Once I qualify I will be on about £26,000.
I have done all my training and my practical portfolio is now with the award body and I then have a professional discussion to pass and my OSCEs to do.
I love what I do, but the pay does not match how hard I work. I do it for the animals though. It is mentally and physically draining but i love the fact I can help animals in need. If you have any more questions I’m happy to reply ☺️

My sister works for a Medivet locally and they are funding her vet nursing as she works, it’s basically minimum wage (or a little over) but she says the wage post qualification is much better!
She gets a day or half day to study each week, then works the rest

Not vet med but I did an apprenticeship as an adult and the easiest way to do was to 1st gain employment in that sector in an unqualified position. You're far more likely to get the backing you need once a practice sees you're a dedicated hard worker that's truly committed to completing the course.
It was hard work juggling uni, work, & home life but absolutely worth it, it was also the only viable option for me to access higher education as a parent with financial responsibilities.
Best of luck & hope it all works out for you 🙂
