DVC rental store swap experience.
Thought we'd give it a go!
So we've booked the EBTA for next May though DVC rental store, if we were booking this through DVC direct it would have been a points cost of 342 each, so 684 points in total for the category of stateroom we want for the 2 of us. This way we need to rent 330 points, a significant saving. So far we've been really impressed with their communication and the speed of responses, we only pulled the trigger on it last night, our cruise is booked, the stateroom we wanted confirmed and we've already rented half the points required (BCV points) all well within 24 hours - hence cruise is 50% paid for, just need to rent the CCV points now, but I have until February so shouldn't be an issue (fingers crossed!). From our experience so far, I'd happily recommend this swap option, we're not doing Florida next year, feel we're doing it to death this year so have plenty of points to spare.

That's really good to know and sounds like an easy option to use points if you're not going to the parks, it's something I'd consider

Sorry,
Have I got this right- instead of 684 points useage with Disney the total points needed to rent out via the store, to cover the cruise, was just 330? Obviously depending on which resort and point rental per per point this would differ, but that seems like a bargain. I also understand you don’t have the normal tax implications because you are swopping?

Exactly correct.
They book the cruise for you in $US, give you the quote and how many points you'll need to rent out to cover it, you then fill out the form with the points, UY etc. that you want to rent, once the rental's complete the full amount is deducted from your cruise balance, if you under rent then on the PIF date, you'd just pay any outstanding balance. They pay $18 a point for 7-11 month window at all resorts bar SSR, OKW, HHI & VB. $16 for those 4 resorts at 11 months and all resorts at or under the 7 month window. Same as renting yourself and using the cash to buy a cruise / hotel stay, but all in the one transaction and no cash going to and fro, and of course, no tax implication as it's a swap, not an income. We were going to bank our 2023 points to 2024 and just splurge or rent some, but wanted to do something early next year anyway, so figured why not try this.
