There is a small WH Smiths but don’t think they sell any fresh food like sandwiches but the cafe might have some takeaway stuff.

@jonsgirl80 if he only likes cheese and onion from a blue packet I would try to bring some with you because walkers aren’t available in many places here. It would most likely be Tayto which would be in a red and blue bag, or Keoghs or O’ Donnells which definitely aren’t blue. Blue is the National salt and vinegar colour 😂

Thanks for the heads up @SamH88. There would be major meltdowns if he ended up with salt and vinegar! I’ll have to pack a large multipack of Walkers cheese and onion to see him through

Occasionally some white bread IF he’s in the mood which is why plain cheese sandwiches is usually my fallback.

This is going to be difficult 😭
it is going to be difficult but one things us mums are is that we are resourceful when it comes to our kiddies

if cheddar is allowed then m&s do slices in the refrigerated section that you can buy to take with you and i believe bread is ok to take in so that makes a sandwich

my plan is to make a lunch box up like i would at home and take what we can, yes it would be nice if my son just ate on the plane but that's highly unlikely so i need to fall back on being resourceful, we can do this

So you’re not allowed to take a sandwich with you even though you’re going to eat it onboard?

It’s because once you go through pre clearance you’re legally considered to be in the US. Therefore anything that wouldn’t be allowed through customs normally isn’t allowed through pre clearance.

Not sure tbf, I’ve only done pre clearance once and by the time we got through the flight was about to close 😞

We went through pre clearance yesterday with a couple of sandwiches we bought in the terminal. We were fully prepared to for them to be taken away if necessary, but they didn’t even ask about food.
We didn’t get time to look in WH Smith before boarding.

I traveled through Dublin a few days ago (was not part of our original travel plan, we had to make our own arrangements to fly into the states after Lufthansa cancelled our flight from MAN to Washington DC just the day before! Managed to get a flight from Dublin to Nashville via Chicago) and didn’t realise there would be additional security before approaching the pre clearance. We had some half eaten family size crisps that we took through security no problem. I remember seeing one sign about meat items. The US immigration officer didn’t ask us any questions about food.

So I would think you may be ok taking a sandwich / crisps through as long as no meat. There was some basic places to get food near the gates but I didn’t really take any notice so not sure if they would be suitable for you.
