Driving an HGV

Here's a jolly good idea from Grant Shapps, let's reduce the training required to drive an HGV now we haven't got the nasty Europeans making us be safe. More motorway carnage!

I'm old enough to have the 7.5ton category on my licence and have used it occasionally, so if it was good enough back then I cant see an issue now.

To drive the larger articulated lorries you would still have to take lessons and pass both theory and practical tests and the required medical.

Not really relevant to the discussion, but my first thought was "oh, I passed my test in 1999"
Then I realised it was actually 1979 - why does time keep running away ftom me?

BTW I wouldn't even consider driving something bigger than a car without extra training.

I'm listening to LBC and existing HGV drivers are upset about changes so something is afoot.

Yeah I’m allowed to drive up to 7.5 tons on my car licence. Never fancied doing it though.
Can’t see that will help it’s the big trucks there’s a shortage of drivers for.

Or they’ve also only been given headline details and not the proper info!
