Water shortages

Due to the latest droughts and water shortages the government have asked people to conserve water and one method suggested was to dilute it.

All joking aside we’ve friends who
Live in the outback in Australia
They have to ship water in for stock and then
We learned a lot from them water to cook veg isn’t put down the sink it’s used for the working dogs or for stock for soup etc
The water from the washing machine shower the showers runs 7 mins then cuts off for 30 mins is diverted to flush toilets and it if it’s yellow let it mellow etc rule
The dishwasher water is used for the vegetable garden and If it rains anyway that can hold water is put out side to catch it honestly it becomes the norm after a few
Days
But honestly living in Scotland I just can’t fathom water shortages

I find it interesting that there's a massive thread on saving electricity as it's costing people so much but not a lot of interest in saving water, which is a finite resource.

We have water saving toilet flushes, reducing shower heads and a water butt. We hardly ever use a hose pipe, ban or not.

Even before the warm weather I started putting an empty milk carton under the running tap when I was running it for hot water to wash up with - that water was used to water plants. We also had 3 x water butts but they have now all gone into topping our pond up and watering the plants that really needed it. Thinking now of moving one to under the kitchen window and capturing grey water

We all should cut down, our simple one at home is a shower timer, 4 minutes. More than enough time once you get used to it. How many of us have daughters or sons 25 mins etc

I have 4 or 5 showers a day at the moment - cold quick ones but its too hot not to stay fresh

I wish Thames water would sort out its leaks first without trying to shame us consumers. I dont change my behaviour as I am as conservative as I can be all the time (I believe) and at the same time I like not to smell so fresh clothes and bodies make for a happy MF

Like Gryff, it's not something we're likely to suffer from, but I do try not to waste water. I don't use our bath often as it's so big and takes a lot of water, feel bad when I fill it up. Trying to get DD to take a quick shower is nye on impossible. Her hair takes a while she tells me.
