Half a booking?

I keep looking at my options for an end of October 2021 trip but with only limited hotel choice available for booking in WDW I'm thinking of holding back and making half a booking so I'd be interested on views for the current proposal.

Book a fly drive with BA to ensure we don't miss out on the limited PE seats. The deposit is only £350 and we already have £300 of BA vouchers from our cancelled Portugal holiday so minimal cost for now.

I wouldn't book seats at this time as it is extra cost and non-fundable. I know there is some risk, but if we have to split up our party of three it's not so bad as I'm an anti-social flyer anyway due to business travel so happy to sit on my own.

As the rest of the flight payment wouldn't be due until the end of September, it gives us a chance to wait and see what happens in the world over the next six to nine months.

If the theme parks return to something like normal and we can have the holiday we want then great. There should also be more hotels open, so we have a wider choice of places to stay and can book them (and tickets) as required and maybe even get some different offers.

Alternatively, we could just use the flights and car to have a Florida fly-drive holiday - maybe a trip to the Keys as that is one part of Florida I've never been to

Or at worst, we can either defer again or just give up the £350 if we had to cancel.

I know this would probably give the uber-planners on here nightmares but the practical person in me thinks this gives us something to look forward to while giving us flexibility in these strange times.

I can see the attraction. It's only a £50 gamble and you can always get another voucher.

I'm not booking anything at the moment but in your situation I'd be tempted.

Im kinda thinking on the same lines as you. We've booked our main holiday for Oct '21 with BA under the £350 deposit option. All monies are due on 1st Oct '21 so that gives us a good deal of time to see how the UK/US looks like in terms of vaccine, conditions, restrictions etc. If we choose not to go, then we lose the £350 deposit which for us, isnt a huge loss in comparison of the happy feeling i have knowing i have 'something' booked for the sunshine state xx

Ditto on seats too, we will leave it to the BA gods and keep fx we are all sat close to each other xx

Went onto the BA website earlier, flydrive price had dropped a little. Next thing I know, I seem to have booked a two week fly drive for the end of October in PE both ways!

Flying into MCO on the early Gatwick flight, Avis car. Flying back from Tampa as return MCO flights for November only showing for LHR at the moment and we don't live too far from Gatwick.

Now just need to keep monitoring the real world, WDW and various sites to see what we will do with those flights but hopefully will end in a split stay at HRH for 5 nights and then none down somewhere in WDW.
