They stopped them dualling because someone lost their eye when something went flying

If this rumour does come true then I hope they replace with a new coaster ride or some sort. Of all the rides we did at both US and IOA we enjoyed the non screen rides the most (hulk, Rip Ride Rocket and Mummy), we like the screen rides like Spiderman etc but they all do seem a bit same y except for the theming in and around it.

Always going to call it Duelling Dragons ,cos that's how I remember it. Fire n Ice ,rode it before they stopped "duelling" and after, not quite the same but still a quality ride.
Not a huge HP fan so hence Duelling Dragons NOT Dragons Challenge. |

Did you know the dragons were intended for Disney's Animal Kingdom park in a Beastly Kingdom land? Look at DAK's original logo - it features a dragon:
The guys who designed it had a falling out with Disney and took the idea to Universal resulting in Fire n' Ice. |

If this rollercoaster will be closed at the end of Oct 2018 we'd have to seriously think twice about bothering with Universal. As it is, we're only keen to go because my daughter really wants to go on the Hulk (she was too short to begin with but last Sept it was constantly down on our Universal days). With the absence of this rollercoaster, I don't think we'll bother!

The ride will be years old in 2019, could that be a sign? The hulk was build at the same time and that has just been through a big renovation . I dont know how long the life span is without a large maintenance overhaul.
I also preferred it back in the day with fire and ice. Fire was the fastest. The dueling aspect was its USP, and you got pretty close! I think a VR element on one of the sides would be interesting, putting a quiddich match visual while on the ride ( though I think motion sickness would be a killer) That would be the cheapest option, as Seaworld are doing.

I'd be glad to see this change tbh. I like the coasters but this one for some reason seems to make my brain rattle more than others 😬 and I've given it a miss for the last two years.

The problem with duelling dragons as it was called and was then a well liked coaster is once they renamed it and stopped sending both cars at the same time it lost a big part of the thrill factor.
The lines are now far smaller than they used to be in fact in september I have seen this ride walk off walk straight back on and there were still empty seats. There is no point keeping a ride that does not fill up as this then means more guests are waiting to go on other rides. I think it is a good idea to get rid of it make way for something new but like some have said I also think they should replace with some kind of coaster.

It was. It isn't any more. And it was only the slogan for Universal Studios and not Islands of Adventure.
Now the slogan is "Vacation Like You Mean It". That must be American-English for "Theme park holidays require lots of screens"

We love duelling Dragons or Dragon Challenge and would be a shame if it went, it is nearly always a walk on ride which I love when in the HP area.
It does take up a large amount of real estate so to replace with a dark ride would not take up all that space so what else could they fit in. The thing with Universal is they are tight for space and they could expand the HP area quite a lot by taking them out. As pointed out in the thread the same rumour was going around last year too, but as others have said it is getting old now and maybe this could be a factor in any decisions. |
