First two weeks of August or October for road trip

Hi
So I am getting very anxious as we have no flights booked yet for our summer trip. The plan was to start in San Francisco and work our way down to San Diego, visiting DL and US/Warner Bros on the way.
DH can only have end of July to mid August off work in the summer hols or anytime in October (looking at 7-23rd)
For July/Aug flights are still over £2200 for 4 of us but on looking this morning we can get October flights in and out of either San Fran or LAX for under £1300 with luggage and we have the bonus of it being Kids month in San Diego, which considering we were going to do at least 5 nights there and do the Zoo and SeaWorld/aquatica would save us even more money.
So October is looking more promising financially and in terms of being less busy than July/Aug, but we like it to be hot!We love the heat and I know that weather can be a bit hit or miss in terms of sunny days in October.
What would you do?

Two weeks to do San Fran, LA and San Diego where you want 5 days in SD and to do Disney and WB which will likely be another 4 days. You will need 3 nights for SF and 2 for PCH as a minimum so you will have no time for anything else.

I would drop San Fran for now and look at flights in and out of LA, doing there and SD concentrating on SoCal for this trip.

Then do another in the future for SF, Yosemite, Vegas etc.

Sorry, got dates wrong. Its 7-24th Oct which would be 17 nights.August dates we could stretch to 18 nights.
If we took the flying directly into and out of LAX option, then we would definitely drop San Francisco and work our way up to Monterey after doing DL/US and LA and then back down the coast finishing at San Diego.

Hi to drive up to Monterey and back down again doesn't really work that well, 5.30 drive time via the motorway. Really try and fly into san Fran

We have just come back from an October trip and had 3 weeks of blue sky and sunshine, only had one cloudy afternoon. Temperatures were hot enough for shorts and t shirts every day, and as we were leaving LA the temperatures were nudging 90 degrees. I would definitely go again at that time of year

We drove up to Monterey and back. We landed in LAX and spent 1 night in Marina Del Rey then headed up to Monterey the next morning , not the PCH. It did take about 5/6 hours. The drive was fab. We then had 4 nights in Monterey. So pretty relaxed. We then left and came down the PCH and stayed in Pismo 1 night before heading to Palm Springs.
It worked perfect for us, but we spent no time in LA other than the night we landed and the drive back to the airport.

Yes can be done , but if you fly I to San Fran and spend some time there then it's only 1.40 to Monterey so does save at least half a day.
