I would do the south rim which is amazing. An overnight stay to see sunrise and sunset. As mentioned just looking from the various viewpoints is just breathtaking. We drove and its a very easy drive, and interesting little places to stop off at.

The train looks amazing and staying at South Rim sounds like the way to go.

Will need to weigh up against cancelling one night at the Venetian and how long the drive will be from South Rim back to Anaheim on the day after.

We did the south rim tour booked with Papillon. It was a long day, coach and then helicopter over the canyon. Brilliant day all be it a long day, we were only in LV for 5 days and this was our favourite day.

We have booked a coach tour for the day. It’s a long day, 12-14 hours but I am scared of going on a helicopter and didn’t want to visit the west rim. It includes lots of stops such as the hoover dam so it hopefully it will be ok.

Recommend grandadventures.com. We done day trip from Vegas strip to south rim and was amazing. Watched sunset over the canyon after hiking round the rim. Plenty stops on way, included food and snacks. Whole experience was fantastic. Left Caesar's 6am and dropped back off around 10:30-11pm.

We did the west rim and the skywalk. We drove- the cost of the helicopter was just too expensive for our budget. I’m really glad we drove- we got there early and it was really quiet. I have to say the magnitude of the place just brought me to tears- it was very emotional

You can just drive it, but go to South Rim which is by far the best bit. I did it 20 years ago, and am doing it again but taking the kids this time. It’s 280 miles, but was quietish roads. Set off at 6-7 get there for 10-11. Stay over or come back about 3.

I may do this when I go in summer:

We did a day coach trip with the website Canyon Tours. We were picked up at our hotel, taken to the Sweet Tours offices where we boarded the coach with our included breakfast. We then went to the Hoover Dam, Route 66 and South Rim of the Grand Canyon where we had 3.5 hours. A packed lunch was also included. There was more than enough time to look around. The driver was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained on the journey both there and back. We were dropped off back at our hotel. It was worth every penny.

We have booked this with them for next summer. We know it’s a 12-14 hour day but we figure we can nap on the bus and I would rather regret doing it than not doing it in case we never get to go back again.

3.5 hours would never have been enough for us at the South rim. You can only really do one of the routes at a rush in that time.

Better than not doing it, and better than the West rim by ground, but still a big compromise unfortunately.
