Winter Park...what's it like?

We've never visited before, always too busy with the parks but I've heard so many of you dibbers talking about it.

We're heading out in March to hunt out a wedding venue...any excuse for a little holiday roadtrip! So far we're visiting Vero Beach, Palm Beach, Miami and Tampa but have another 2/3 days to fill...would anyone recommend looking in or around Winter Park? Is it a picturesque kind of place, or a lot like Celebration (which is a bit too Stepford Wives for us!)

All I can see on Google Image is amazing mansion houses...don't think the wedding budget will stretch that far

Thanks, O x

We like Winter Park. It has upmarket shops and great cafes. There is a boat tour too which is worth doing to see the canals and the large houses. There is also a train station and you often see huge Amtrak trains stopping for passengers. There is more going on the Celebration.

Google Wedding venues in Winter park, I am sure there are some.

Spent a great day there last year. The boat ride is a must. Also museums and colleges to look around. I must have spent an hour at the train station watching a huge train pull in and people getting on/off. a double decker! guess i've never grown up. Wife and daughter found an Origins (ladies cosmetics and creams) shop. Said it was cheaper than over here and both came out with a free goody bag. Son and i indulged in a delicious burger and freshly squeezed lemonade from a burger bar just on the corner from a starbucks (sorry can't remember the name). Don't go on a Monday, everything closed. As previously said, we prefer it to celebration. Areal laid back American town, to us full of character and charm. Well worth a visit

We liked Winter Park. My husband & grown up children went to the gun range on the way there (I stayed in the shop & viewed them on the screen as it's not for me), we went to the market (Saturday morning) & there's the cheesecake factory there too ... yum

My sister in law got married at kraft azalea park which is near winter park. It was 12 years ago but I'm pretty sure the venue was free. The town itself is a pretty little street with expensive shops and cafes. And you can take a boat trip to look at expensive houses.

Last year I stayed at the Alfond Inn at Winter Park beautiful hotel but not good on the credit card. It is owned by Rollins College and use profits to fund scholarships. We had a walk around the college gardens too. Ate at Luna which was very nice, my son recommended the Turkish restaurant but I wasn't impressed with the Wine Room. My grandson loved waving at the trains too.

We fancy going to winter park this year for the first time. What is the parking like there (we will go mid week), and approx how long would the drive be from the US27 (champions gate)?
