I am very angry, am I wrong?

Hello,

Sorry I just need to vent. My husband died from cancer last week and the funeral is next week. I've just had a card from his brother and sister-in-law with 'have a great Christmas' inside crossed out and then their names inside. I can't believe they actually thought this was an appropriate card to send. I'm afraid I tore it up and put it in the bin.

Is it me, just being overly sensitive? My son thinks maybe a poor attempt at humour.

I think it's a bizarre card for them to send. I'm sorry for your loss x

Firstly, I'm really sorry for your loss xx

About the card -
Humour?

I'm sorry, I would not have sent that card.
I think I'd feel as you do.

So sorry for your loss. That’s totally insensitive of them, have they no brains between them!

That seems in very poor taste. I don’t blame you for being upset x

I am genuinely so very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband.

It isn't something I would send to someone under the circumstances, but they may have actually thought it would cheer you up because people don't always realise how their actions can have the opposite affect of what they intended.

Oh I’m so so sorry to hear about your husband, but also the upsetting card.

Not knowing your BIL or his sense of humour I couldn’t begin to guess - I would be appalled generally, but is he known for having a bizarre sense of humour generally? Was he close to his brother, perhaps it’s his own grief coming out in a bizarre way?

Sending you much love xx

Ps I’ve just lost my mum three weeks ago and have just taken down the sympathy cards (I’m not a lover of having cards all over the place anyway and I found them all particularly upsetting), whilst I’ve put them away and kept them, I’ve since thrown out any Christmas cards I’ve received - I’m just not up to having them all up in replacement of the sympathy cards, it’s seems such a wildly different type of card that I can’t face the contrast - not sure I’m making any sense!

Anyway just wanted to say, be kind to yourself and do whatever feels right for you - sending big hugs xx

I’m so sorry for your loss, I don’t understand the thinking behind the card either I’m afraid.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

That really is an incredibly awful and insensitive thing for anyone to do. They too are grieving and we all cope differently but you did right putting it in the bin. You don’t think they posted it before your husband passed away do you ?

I am so very sorry for your loss. People can just be really awkward and perhaps even insensitive regarding loss. I think you did the right thing and I do not think you are being overly sensitive. Hugs to you xx
