Some sciatica like pain is caused by the sciatic nerve running through the muscle in your bum, the piriformis I think it is, and it is made worse by sitting. Worth a thought

Definitely consider an adjustable desk and alternating between standing and sitting, is there one in your office that you can try out?

As said above, you really need a work station assessment and for your company to act on the recommendations.

Sciatica 90% of the time is associated with a bulging disc issue, this was said to me by my back surgeon. Sciatica will come and go, I have had bouts of it where I have been stuck, unable to move and ended up being taken to hospital via 999 ambulance...horrendous pain. I must be one of the unfortunate ones, 8 back operations, back now fused, pelvis both sides fused, way too many route nerve blocks to help with pain😔. I've seen so many pain team clinics its unreal, I now take morphine at slow release twice a day and hourly as well. Back pain and sciatica are horrendous and because you cannot physically see it you can be judged by others and it is very cruel how some people are 😢
You need a work place assessment, your workplace needs to be ergonomically individualised to your needs, so a desk that goes to standing height, pc on a stand and a specialist back chair.
I've had physiology for sciatica, unfortunately my surgeon said they did more harm than good 😩. I've gas hydro therapy, acupuncture, but they did not work my sciatica got worse.
After seeing my surgeon Paul Rhys Davies, top back surgeon via private health care he said it is all related to your discs in your back. I've had MRzi and CT scan with contrast dye to identify the issues. X-ray will not highlight what needs to be shown. My advice would be see a specialty, ask to be referred via your Gp but be warned its a long long process that takes moths and sometimes years to get sorted. I have been on private health care and nhs and the time difference is mind blowing.
By saying its your job that caused this it would unfortunately be very hard to confirm this in a court of law.
I wish you all the best and hope you get some ease really soon

Try doing stretching exercises before your shift begins and also a couple of times a day at home too. There are recommended ones the physios can explain on the NHS if you can get a referral to one. They can email a pdf of them to you after you answer some questions on where the pain is and severity etc. If it’s a musculoskeletal issue they should be able to help I’m sure. They did wonders for my bursitis pain in my left hip but I need to keep on top of the exercises or it just seizes up. I also have arthritis in it which doesn’t help any time. It all stems from breaking my hip socket and pelvis almost 21 years ago. It went undiagnosed for ages so now I have constant pain and can relate to the pain you are feeling . With the stretching it becomes more manageable so I hope you get some relief soon too.

Please dont take the advice given as a right answer on what you should have.

Everyone is different and it needs to be someone who is qualified and has assessed you to advise you on what you need to do.

Your GP can assess and refer to the appropriate team, Occupational health can review you, your job and advise on reasonable adjustments to your work environment. The DSE assessor can look at your work area and work out the best option for you.

This could be a different chair, height adjustable desk or other equipment but it will take time

Your employer should get an occupational health report carried out by who they subscribe to for occupational health, you personally need a full work station assessment done by occupational health as well. Your desk and chair need to be looked at and the equipment you use. I would also make an appointment with your Doctor or a Chiropractor for an assessment, (Doctor will probably refer to Physio), you really need to know what is wrong and where the sciatica is coming from for your employer to obtain the right equipment /furniture to help you.

Does anyone else in your office have an adjustable desk you could try for a day or two? i have a few people in my office use them and they have made a difference to them.
