No. Next to can mean behind, in front, across aisle. Also as they only booked yesterday many seats may well have been paid and allocated for, Also a six year old cannot be sat in an exit seat

I suspect the OP is just relieved to be on their way

I too have just read the whole thing from start to finish and just wanted to say thank goodness for Tc and credit cards, these things happen but it is how you deal with it as a couple that shows your inner strength, so well done both, glad your away today and this will be something you can look back on in years to come and laugh about! Once you ahve paid the credit card off of course! enjoy your holiday you deserve it
