Do medications in your hand luggage count towards your weight allowance
As stated above, was just wondering because I have never been on medications before when flying and now have lots, including 3 bottles of liquid medication. So don't want to put too much in hand luggage if they do. Thank you for any information on this, don't want to cause any problems at the airport.

Good point Tracey, I've never even thought of it before and I carry an awful lot of pills etc with me in my hand luggage.
I did a quick search online and managed to find this on one site "Medicines may be exempt from the quantity restrictions but will be subject to authentication". Guessing that it'd be ok to put all your medications etc (with a current repeat prescription for authorisation) in another bag that you can take out if they want to weigh the hand luggage. |

Most airline will let you carry on a extra bag to take your medication

Please please make sure you have a current prescription and a letter from your Dictir if theses are liquid medications in containers over 100millilitres.
I work Heathrow security and I hate having to take medicines off people or making put in the hold. So if more than 100 mil 1 doctors letter 2 prescription 3 be prepared for these items to be tested

You will be fine and as above carry repeat prescription form will you. My dd has to have sterile water which was in 1000 ml bottle. They checked prescription and just swabbed it

Medication should be carried in hand luggage. Airlines will allow on request an extra 'medical bag' which doesn't count as part of your allowance. Only medication and medical appliances can be carried in it.
Liquid medication is also fine (even over 100mls) but it is prudent to carry a repeat prescription slip and/or letter from your doctor listing the medication needed. Security may ask you to open and taste any liquids. If in doubt call the airline's special assistance department for information. |

Thank you all for your advice and information, I have already asked my doctor for a letter as I will be taking morphine with me. Wmc711 you mention about testing, what testing,is that to do with controlled drugs? I must admit I am a bit worried because I take morphine tablets and liquid morphine, will I have a problem with customs due to these medications? Thank you again for helping sort me out and alleviating some of my concerns.

All liquids above 100mil must be tested under Gov Guidelines.
As security we have 2 different machines for doing this, nothing has to be TASTED, even though its medicinal drugs they unfortunately fall under the security restrictions. As long as you have correct prescriptions and I strongly suggest a letter you will be fine

I was asked to taste DS's meds. It depends on the personnel on the day.
