The trip of many changes August 2017 - Day 8 Busch Gardens and 'Ohana
Index here
Today the big girls were very excited; it was our first visit to Busch gardens and they all loved the look of the big coasters. I have to apologise as I didn't take many photos this morning. We left a bit later than we were planning and after encountering a bit of traffic we arrived about 10.10. The first ride of the day was Cheetah Hunt. We had planned to do a couple more rides now but decided instead to catch up the time by skipping cobras curse and montu and getting on the skyride. The girls were ahead of us in the queue and got put on a separate car to us. Evie looked rather worried but she was fine once we got into the air and she could see us in the car behind. We arrived at Sheikra about 11.00, Robyn and Hattie loved it and went straight back round for a second go. Evie was getting a bit bored so Ollie took her on Stanley falls while we were waiting. Two goes on Sheikra back to back was enough for the older ones so they joined their sister for another trip on Stanley falls. I had been quite cross about our late arrival but was starting to relax now as we were still getting loads done. Next up was congo river rapids which left us all suitably wet! Kumba was closed and the girls didn't fancy falcons fury today so Ollie and the younger two girls did the bumper cars. We carried on round. I had been hoping that Evie would try sand serpent as she generally likes rides once she gives them a go but can be a bit nervous about trying new things. She wasn't having it so she rode the carousel while the other two did phoenix. By now we were all hungry so had lunch in the dragonfire grill. Our food was all hot and tasty and there was a good choice for everyone to find something they fancied. Edited at 09:05 PM. |

We finished our lunch around 1.30. Robyn was being awkward for some reason and wouldn't ride Scorpion with Hattie. She really wanted to ride so she went on her own.
We were feeling hot and in need of another little break so we wandered to the train station in Nairobi. We had just missed a train but enjoyed being undercover for a while to wait for the next one. I think our busy schedule might just have been catching up with Evie. The plan was to get off by Sheikra and catch the skyride back to the other side of the park. We achieved the first part of the plan, getting off the train at the right stop. However, the skyride wasn't operating due to lightning in the area. As we now had a long walk ahead of us we grabbed some ice creams to help us along the way The two big girls wanted to try for cobra's curse and montu that we had missed this morning so they walked on ahead of us and we agreed a meeting spot. Sadly lightning was still in the area so both rides were closed. We met back up with the girls and headed out of the park. I had expected that Busch Gardens might be a once and done for us but it actually worked really well for our family. There were plenty of thrill rides to keep the older girls happy and there were animals nearby to look at with Evie when she wasn't tall enough or didn't want to ride. We will definitely be back on future trips. |

I apologise for the lack of photos in this section. We had a 7.10pm reservation at 'Ohana. We did think we would have time to go back to AKL and get freshened up but we got stuck in traffic on the way back and the journey to Disney took well over two hours.
Evie was desperate to go on the monorail so we made the decision to park up at the TTC and travel from there to the Poly. We arrived an hour early for our reservation. They let us check in early but we had to wait until virtually our ADR time to be seated. I was really looking forward to this meal with all the good reviews it receives but it wasn't one of our favourites. The lobby waiting area was very noisy and quite chaotic and even once inside we found it quite difficult to hear each other speaking. Once we were seated we placed our drinks order quickly and asked for a children's meal for Evie. The adult food arrived fairly quickly but we didn't get our drinks or Evie's food until we had reminded our waiter. Later in the meal I had taken a little break and came back to find that my drink had been refilled with the wrong thing. I did get it changed but the waiter made me feel a bit like I was being awkward. The food was OK and we were offered more of all the meats but it certainly isn't somewhere that we have on our list to repeat. Once we had finished we made our way back to AKL all ready for a good sleep. |

Another full day. BG sounds good. Pity about Ohana. Every trip report I've read recently has been about down about it.

I had heard mixed things about Ohana before we went but thought we would give it a try for ourselves. I don't think we'll be back. Both my older two girls being thrill seekers means Busch Garden is heaven for them and having the animals too for Evie makes it a really good mix for us.
