We love DCL - will we like Ocean Village?
I was wondering if any fellow dibbers have tried both cruise lines?
I`ve found a 14 day cruise with OV for March and it would be so nice to get away from this winter. DH thinks we should cruise with no other than DCL. I know it won`t be the same but... any opinions? |

I cruised on Ocean Village 2, i know they no longer own this ship but i think its quite similar to Ocean Village 1. There were things about it we liked and things we didn't like.
The ship is quite old and to be honest you can tell, our cabin was quite big but very noisy, and several other people we spoke to complained about noise too, it felt like the walls were vibrating, felt alot of movement too. The crew were very friendly and all other cruisers were british which we liked. Entertainment was ok, mainly tribute acts. Food again ok, always found something we liked but nothing special. We thought it was going to be very casual but as there was alot of older people on our cruise they still tended to dress for dinner, which was nice, i'm sure your already aware there is no sitdown restaurant unless you pay extra. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean and NCL and loved both and wouldn't hesitate to do either again, i wouldn't do Ocean Village again. We tried it as it was our first cruise with our DD (18 months at the time) and we got it for a bargain price, but you get what you pay for.

We have done both and would say they are completely different. We did not rate the entertainment on OV-a little amateurish. Also shows were in a more cabaret style theatre where you were sitting around tables and expected to be drinking. The meals were all buffet -no set dining times,no dressing up unless you paid extra for the speciality restaurants-not that this was a bad thing ,just different. Most of the passengers are British as opposed to DCL where they are American.
We did a 14 day carribean/Central america cruise a couple of years ago and we did it for the itinerary rather than the ship.We did 2x3 day Disney cruises last year-for the ship rather than the itinerary.I hope i am not putting you off OV because we enjoyed our cruise but Disney is just different-probably a little better but much more expensive
