Tusker House Character Breakfast
We did this yesterday and it had only been open two days, but of course, Disney already has a very slick operation in place.
First of all, you are invited to have your photo taken in front of an African themed display. There didn't seem to be the opportunity to have this added to your Disney photopass, but we didn't actually ask. We had only been seated 10 minutes at most when a girl came to the table with the actual photo ready framed, along with 4 smaller copies and a photo of the characters. The cost was $29.95 + tax, and she wanted our credit card to take away and charge which I don't like doing. We paid cash. You couldn't get it added to the food bill as I guess they are different departments. I have a copy of the menu, and will scan it in when I get back, but there were all the usual breakfast items on it, and some unusual ones like Beef Bobitie which is available at Boma. The food temperature was good and there were several small serving stations so if there was a queue you could visit another station till it cleared. The temptation is to eat far too much to try everything, but I felt totally stuffed and didn't actually eat another thing till 10 hours later. The waiting staff were attentive, perhaps too attentive, but there was a posse of managers watching over them. Tip - when your waiter asks if you want jungle juice, unless you actually like weak 5 alive, just ask for regular orange juice which is also available, as they will just keep filling up your glass with the same stuff. The coffee is good and you get a large flask just for your table. We were still eating when the waitress brought the bill. She lifted the wallet 3 times over the next 15 minutes while we were still eating, to see if we had put our card or cash inside. Each time we just said we were still eating, and her response was to fill up our jungle juice glasses. The waitress had explained that there were 5 characters - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy, and they would take about 45-60 minutes to get round the whole place. Fortunately they came round quite early in our meal, but at one point there were 4 of them in the dining room we were in (There are 4 seaptate dining rooms I think) and it got very crowded especially for trying to get out to the buffet, and also with the posse of managers hanging about just at the doorway to the buffet. The characters were very good and visited each table in a strict rotation. They signed autographs and posed for photos. We were only a party of two adults, but they still spent a good amount of time with us. Again, it would have been a good idea if there had been a photopass photographer there - I don't know if they do this at other character meals or not. The cost was $22.99 + tax per adult. I think this is the price for the opening few days plus the holiday season. I read on another site that the regular price is $18.99. I think it is good value and there is a terrific amount of food if you can manage it, but it is so slick we could have been in and out in 30 minutes. We decided to take our time. I probably wouldn't go back for a breakfast again as I'm just not used to eating that amount, but you could easily have a very late breakfast and make it do for your lunch.

It sounds good. The paying for photos thing is becoming more common at character meals, we had it at Akershus princess breakfast, and also Chef Mickeys. I object to it, so we took our own photo instead.
Did you get any photos of the restaurant, I am curious as to how it looks after the conversion. |

Thanks for the great report Chris. Sounds like you had yourselves a very enjoyable experience.
How do you think the new TH compares with Boma? It seems like there are a few similarities. Like many others I was disappointed about the changes as it was always one of my favourite counter service locations. I held on to the hope that the food would still be good quality when it changed to a buffet. We have planned to have lunch at Tusker House in January and I'm getting quite excited about it now! |
