Returing Alamo Hire Car

We have booked a packing with Virgin Holidays which includes car hire. The plan was to pick the car up at around 9 am (after we disembark from a cruise) and then return the car at the end of the holiday around 3pm.
Reading the small print it seems that you have to return the car the same time as you pick it up
We have just been notified that the return flight is now not until later in the evening so would like to return the car at around 6pm.

Anyone know if there will be an extra charge to do this?

Depends on how long you've booked it for. If you booked a day and picked up at 9am, your rental would expire 9am the next day. When you appeared at 3pm you've be charged a full day extra rental, but at the rental 'standard' rate, trust me, it'll cost far more than you expect.

I'd phone Virgin first to see if you're covered. Alternatively, you'll get hammered with additional rental costs at the desk for your 'free car hire' (Insurances etc).

Might be better to book a car separately and all inclusively instead
