Check the small print but when we do this it usually means the car goes back empty. Make sure you use as much of it as possible otherwise the car hire company gain the more you leave in the tank.

If you pay for a tank of fuel then you return empty.
On return make sure they are not charging you for fuel..it is a little trick some have. your return reciept should read $000 to pay If you dont pay then you return full or get charged for the rental company to fill the tank.

As per Tel N Kel.
Twice in the last few years I have seen a British guy shouting at the staff to get his money back for bringing the car back full when he had already pre paid and should have brought it back empty. They will not refund so both Renters were wasting their time. Last thing I do in the garage is have a good look at the Visa reciept they print off to make sure it is $0

Ever since Satnav/Google Maps arrived I haven't bothered to pre-pay fuel:
- it's easy enough to find a gas station near the airport - it's as much hassle to return "empty" as it is full (unless you leave 1/2 tank) IMHO. If you've too much fuel just do the last few days in 2nd gear and pretend you're a racing driver. As Jeremy Clarkson said: "What's the fastest car in the world? A hire car!" My 8yo DS loves to remind me BTW we had a standard fullsize and found $30 was more than enough to go from less than 1/4 to full. Edited at 02:03 PM. Reason: add |

There are no stupid questions - only stupid answers .
As said, you take it back empty. I always take the tank of fuel - I know I'm getting (slightly) done on the price but after a 12 hour journey I simply can't be bothered to faff about and just want to get to the villa. |

you wouldnt need to faff about all rental cars come with a full tank of fuel on collection.
Paying on arrival for the tank of fuel is more faffin about than not paying. If you dont pay for fuel on arrival you simply take the car with a full tank of fuel and return with a full tank of fuel
