Mobile Universal FOTL or hotel?

Hi, I keep seeing people state that they book at stay at universal and not actually stay just to get the pass as it works out cheaper.
But I can't see how? We are a party of 6 and the pass is $70 each.
But a stay over is looking like $1000 plus to get the pass included

Is the $1000 for 2 nights as the hotel stay would give you 2 days folp?

I would also be interested to know how it works out cheaper as we are looking to go in two years time for a week and have been going through some figures.

There's only 3 hotels that offer folp - portofino, hard rock and royal Pacific resort
Eta - I've stayed at all 3 many times and they are fantastic hotels

Maybe it's because, as a party of 6, you need two rooms? For us (family of 4) it has always been MUCH cheaper to book one room is a hotel and get two days of FOTL. For our dates this year, the hotel is about £600 but the passes would be around would be around £1600!

I think you can get 5 people in one room, for august we are paying about £350 a night for 2 days FOLP. To pay for these would be way more. Plus there are 2 types of FOLP pass, one only allows one ride per day, the ones in the hotel are unlimited.

You could book a room for 5 and then pay seperately for one of them.

We have just booked Hard Rock Hotel for one night for 5 of us in Aug 2020, it was £303 for a standard room or £316 for a club room, so of course we went for that as that also gives us complimentary drinks and snack through the day and evening (including wine and beer in the evening) so for £13 extra for all 5 of us it was a no brainer, we also get the FOTLP too

We are a party of six but booked a room for 5 for one night . Cost £380 in July. Which worked out a lot cheaper . Fast passes are £85 a day for July so £85 x 5 x 2 for the two days = a whopping £850 quid and on top of that you can only use them once per ride but hotels ones are unlimited. It's a no brainer. Ok we are one short but we have a 4 year old in group anyway. I have no intention of sleeping in room , though we may use it as a rest place.
