Lots of people use an app on their phone - I use here maps. If you can use data abroad lots of people use waze or google maps to give them traffic updates.

I used waze doing the drive from Orlando to Miami airport, had no issues at all. Was good for the live traffic updates etc

I always use Google Maps and never had a problem it shows when there is heavy traffic too. I'm on 3 network and never lost signal while driving. You can also download the maps and use them offline too.

Download the area you want from Google maps. This then available offline therefore using no costly data, and it will navigate you wherever you need to go. Save any areas of interest before saving the map as an offline map then you can use these point as you need them throughout the holiday.
Granted you won't get live traffic info but for free it is probably the best way to do it. Once you're out of Miami it's plain sailing.

I bought a Garmin because thats what I use in the UK. It is the same model where the screen splits at junctions and has lifetime updates.
With commonality of use and familiarity, it is simply one less thing to worry about. The USA one cost me £32 on Ebay.

Worth noting, Sat Navs can take a while to pick up satellites and work (MCO garage seems to be a nightmare!) so worth checking your route on google maps so you have rough idea where to head for.

I always get lost anyway...sat nav come to rescue eventually...
