West Coast where to stop?
Starting to plan a west coast trip for 2021(hopefully), where would you choose to stop between San Diego and Grand Canyon?

We stayed 2 nights in Williams so we could visit the canyon by train a few years ago. We then had a few days in Palm Springs to do the tramway and Joshua Tree NP before travelling to San Diego.
It's a long drive from Williams to Palm Springs as we avoided the freeway but we did have fantastic views. Palm Springs have a huge street market on Thursday night's that is worth a visit. We usually stay a the BW Las Brias it's a fab hotel. Edited at 03:59 PM. |

Hi the west coast is fantastic, we have now had 2 trips and probably will go again in 2021. First off how long is your trip and what else do you want to see, this might help with advice.

Hi the longest we can do will be 3 weeks, ideally we want to include San Francisco, LA and Anaheim, San Diego, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and Yosemite and a couple of 1 night stops in between, at the moment I can’t even figure out a route, the other option is just to do a coastal trip?

Hi you have just written your route down all you need is a starting point.
For flight in and out of LA would probably work out cheaper but check other options. Example would then be arrive and drive to San Diego 2.5 hours. From here the your route would be Palm Springs, Canyon, Vegas, Yosemite, San Fran, Monterey, PCH, cambria or Santa Barbara and then back to LA. With any of theses routes you will have a couple of long day’s driving. The decision you will have to make is how long in each place and how thoroughly you would like to explore. If you have done a lot of Orlando parks in the past I would nearly suggest don’t do Disney in LA , I know sacrilege. So 2/3 n san diego 1 Palm Springs 2 Canyon 3 Vegas 2/3 Yosemite 3 San Fran 2 Monterey 1 Santa Barbara A few days LA Disney or expand some other stops |

Just to note the drive from Palm Springs to Canyon area is most of a day.
The other long dr would be Vegas to Yosemite which we did, 6.5 with a couple of pit stops , this could be broken up at somewhere like lee vinning. Yosemite to San Fran 3.5 San Fran to Monterey 1.45 Monterey coast to Santa Barbara 5/6 but you may want to shorten this nd stop cambria or ? Edited at 06:47 PM. |
